Joe Biden’s potential Vice President’s career went up in flames because of this racist remark

Joe Biden is facing a major decision about who he will choose as his Vice Presidential running mate.

Now his field of possible contenders just narrowed.

And that’s because Joe Biden’s potential Vice President’s career went up in flames because of this racist remark.

Some Democrats believe failed Georgia Gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams is the strongest potential running mate.

As a young, black woman supported by the Bernie Sanders wing of the party, Abrams could juice turnout among segments of the Democrat base not excited about Joe Biden’s candidacy.

Polls show Biden faces a significant enthusiasm gap and some Democrats think selecting Abrams would solve that problem.

But recently unearthed video could end Abrams’ Vice Presidential hopes.

In 2014, Abrams spoke before the PowerPAC conference in Washington, D.C. where she delivered remarks about the importance of registering minority voters.

But Abrams took this topic into an ugly area of racism and grievance politics when Abrams stressed that it was important to “change the electorate so that when 2020 redistricting rolled around Democrats in Georgia could stop white people from electing a Republican government.

“I want to frame this in a specific way,” Abrams began her remarks. “Georgia has 31 percent African American population, 9 percent Latino, [and] 3.5 precent Asian American. So we’re 43.5 percent of the population but in terms of voting strength, African Americans vote about 30 percent of the electorate. The Latino population votes at about 1.5 percent and the Asian American population votes at 1.3 percent,” Abrams began.

“I’m focusing here, but my eye is on 2021 because when we do redistricting in 2021, if we have not changed the electorate, especially in the South, we will have a majority-minority population that is governed by a minority white conservative coalition,” she said. Abrams added that was “the most dangerous precedent that we can possibly set for the South in the next 20 years.”

Abrams’ brand of racial resentment could alienate the suburban voters Democrats need to hold on to in order to win the White House.
