Title: Pompeo Vows US Will Use ‘Every Tool’ to Rescue Americans From Failed Venezuela Attack

Pompeo refuses to share further information on ties to plot

US officials continue to try to distance themselves from the failed incursion into Venezuela, which led to the arrests of several people, including two Americans. Venezuela has blamed the US, while President Trump denied any knowledge of it.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is certainly adding to speculation that this is a US plot, saying that the US will “use every tool” to get the Americans back. He says this is a responsibility, but it only seems to be so if this was a foiled American plot.

Pompeo went on to add further to this speculation, saying that he will not share further information about who financed and drove the plot at this time. Further, the State Department accused Venezuela’s President Maduro of using this to deflect from trouble at home.

With those involved portraying this as a US-driven coup plot, the administration seems to be acting exactly how one would expect them to act if that was the case. The US has repeatedly tried to impose regime change in Venezuela, and this seems to be just the latest failed bid.

Why would they 'expend all measures necessary' to get back 2 gringos that ran an un- sanctioned foreign invasion / hit job?

No reason if they were only adventurers. Pompeo is deliberately giving the impression of US sanction.

They seem to be talking but I'm sure they know nuzzink about Trump. And even Trump isn't that stupid. If this was a CIA operation, they would have given Trump plausible deniability.

Ah, if only those mercenaries had air cover, there might have been a different outcome.

Kennedy and CIA tried to do that one off the books.

It was in reality nothing but an extension of the Monroe Doctrine.

For two hundred years foreign nations have been warned to stay out of the Americas.

As an unwritten extension of that is the fact that the Americas are NOT ALLOWED to fight among themselves. Canada as second largest country in the world, with tiny population, has remained because of the US.

Canada as second largest country in the world, with tiny population, has remained because of the US.

We have never defended Canada against anyone. In fact, Canada has required defense against several attempts by the US to invade. Its defender until the 20th century was Great Britain.

And the Americas have fought amongst themselves almost continually: Brazil v. Argentina, Everyone v. Paraguay, Bolivia v. Chile and the latest is us trying to get Colombia to attack Venezuela.

We have never defended Canada against anyone.

Ada.. This synopsis of Ogdensburg agreement of 1940.

Canada assumed they would fall to Hitler if Britain fell.

Their Prime Minister came here, signed an accord that is in effect today, IF ANYONE TOUCHES CANADA THE THE USA WILL CONSIDER IT AN INVASION F THE US.

Now here is basic premise of agreement "that never existed".

"""By July 1940, Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King, along with a growing number of Canadians, was becoming increasingly concerned that Britain would fall and that Canada, with its small population and abundant natural resources, would become Germany's next target. In addition to transferring its gold reserves to Canada at the beginning of the war, the British government had also prepared a contingency plan (which was largely kept secret to avoid hurting morale) to evacuate the Royal family, the government and as many critical military and scientific personnel to Canada as possible if the British Isles fell to Germany. These factors only increased concerns that Germany would eventually target Canada for its next conquest.

Both Canada and the United States recognized this threat. Subsequently, it was the United States that initiated preliminary military discussions that became formative in July 1940. On August 18, Roosevelt and King met inland from the border town of Ogdensburg, New York. Roosevelt outlined his plan to create a joint board to oversee the defence of both nations, not just for the duration of the current crisis, but as a permanent body. King immediately agreed, and the Permanent Joint Board on Defence was created.

Most Canadians supported this agreement, which was soon known as the Ogdensburg Agreement, as they deemed it necessary not only for security purposes but also to improve relations with the United States (it was also hoped that the agreement would help pull the United States into the war). However, some Canadians, most notably former Conservative prime minister Arthur Meighen were furious - they argued that by signing this agreement, Canada was not only abandoning Britain but was effectively placing itself under the control of the United States. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill was also angry, stating that "all these transactions will be judged [at the end of the war] in a mood different to that prevailing while the issue still hangs in the balance." King's government recognized these concerns; Canadian negotiators resolutely refused to give the United States control of Canada's forces, and rejected proposals to integrate much of the country's defences into Washington's Northeast and Northwest Defence Commands. King's approach satisfied most Canadians - although co-operation with the United States was essential, it did not mean abandoning Canada's national interests"""

History Ada, I WAS HERE AND REMEMBER IT.

The Bay of Pigs (April 1961) was CIA all the way But they failed to inform JFK of what was going on. When the invasion went bust, JFK was livid.

The next step was Krushev and the the Cuban Missile Crisis in October of 1962.

I would say that one fomented the other. ;)

Who says there's such an extension -- we've got to have something firmer than that to go on. And what do you mean Canada has 'remained', Cyni? That it still exists thanks to the Monroe Doctrine?

If anything what you're saying condemns all of DC's hellish meddling throughout Latin America over the centuries -- including this incessant despicable tormenting of VZ.

Venezuela is NOT an internal choice by the people.

Maduro is trying to hold together what Chavez destroyed with his socialism. Lucky they have oil there to help them out.

But inflation is so severe in Venezuela that restaurants tape a strip of paper with prices on it. When the prices change they simply change the strip of paper. That is a lot cheaper than printing new menus. ;)

Add to that a lack of ability to think on their own and there is a problem.

My best history student has...seven years...as a college major.

I work with several people who a few cards short of a full deck.

I did the last rivet job two years ago. While I was doing it, my boss thought I was putting rivets in wrong place. But I showed her I was not. I told her to get the diagram.

"You see, to get the rivet on LEFT side of bracket, I must put the bracket in the rivet machine from the RIGHT side."

I have made mistakes before but not that time.

Seven years to major in history is a good deal. History was one of my fortes in High School. ;)

I wouln't call that defending Canada. Rather just another attempt at provoking Hitler.

The ex prime minister justly objected.

When the Monroe Doctrine was adopted, all of Latin America, including Mexico, was controlled by European powers. True dat we did not recognize Napoleon III's Maximillian as Emperor of Mexico while most of Europe did.

Informed of??? He and his brother were the plotters.

There is audio tape of short conversation between JFK and Gen. LeMay where JFK LIES AND ASSURES LEMAY THERE IS NO HIDDEN RECORDER AND LEMAY CAN SPEAK HIS MIND..

LEmAY BELIEVED HIM AND SPOKE HIS PIECE. In direct profane language, LeMay tells JFK to his face he has....ed up.

Listen to it, tell me JFK knew nothing.

JFK was a liar to LeMay and the CIA got their revenge.

Listen to it, tell me JFK knew nothing.

I said that JFK knew about it but was less than enthusiastic.

Kennedy had inherited Eisenhower’s CIA campaign to train and equip a guerilla army of Cuban exiles, but he had some doubts about the wisdom of the plan. The last thing he wanted, he said, was “direct, overt” intervention by the American military in Cuba: The Soviets would likely see this as an act of war and might retaliate. However, CIA officers told him they could keep U.S. involvement in the invasion a secret and, if all went according to plan, the campaign would spark an anti-Castro uprising on the island.

No doubt LeMay's accusation that JFK fucked up was his refusal to provide air cover.
