Russia once claimed gold in the race for hypersonic dominance after rolling out a range of ultra-fast projectiles. Now it’s offering unique radar protecting against weapons of the same kind – even if they come in huge numbers.

Having unbeatable offensive weapons – for example hypersonic missiles – could be a game-changer in the age of modern, fast-paced warfare. But it’s equally crucial to have something that shields you from those designed or deployed by an adversary.

And Russia’s newest radar station is able to fit the bill, Rosoboronexport, the government agency in charge of arms trade, said this Wednesday. The radar, which is the latest addition to the Protivnik (Adversary) family, is likely to turn a few heads abroad due to its capability to “efficiently detect a wide range of existing and future flying objects, including hypersonic targets.”

The looks of the radar, mounted atop a standard military-issue KAMAZ truck, isn’t as impressive as its unique features. Its antenna is sensitive enough to detect targets flying at 8,000kph (nearly 5,000mph) and at a distance of up to 450km (280 miles).

The newest edition of the Protivnik series “can simultaneously track at least 1,000 thousand objects” and distinguish between eight classes of missiles, Rosoboronexport revealed.

The radar is highly mobile, meaning that its crew can move around quickly and avoid being tracked by the enemy in what is known as ‘shoot-scoot-tactics’ in military lingo.

The agency hopes the system will grasp the attention of users in Asia-Pacific, North Africa, and the Middle East, where Russian military hardware has always been in great demand.

The Russian armed forces have started using previous models of the Protivnik family in recent years, along with early warning facilities put in place across the country.

Apart from defensive equipment, Russia is working on state-of-the-art hypersonic projectiles. Some, like the Avangard (Vanguard) hypersonic glider, were already put into service, while others, like the Kinzhal (Dagger) cruise missile, are undergoing trials or said to be in the works now.

Poster Comment:

Looks like the Palestinians have an answer to Israel and the US. No more aggression is acceptable. If Iran gets this radar, their Mach 14 missile would seem to be pretty invulnerable. If China gets it, they can send the US packing in Asia. If Russia deploys it in the Mideast and Europe, they can tell the US to stuff it.

Looking forward to the day when we have no foreign wars.

Looking forward to the day when we have no foreign wars.

That has never been possible, will never be possible.

This world has always had and will always have bad people.

As for inbound, tracking is one thing, destroying is quite another. Also anything sub sonic, ground hugging, is making a comeback.

Iran has missiles that hug the ground and have an 800 mile range. They have Mach 14 missiles. And the S-400 can destroy incoming missiles. The old Pantir S-200 can take care of cruise missiles.

They are now more in vogue.

In my day it was flood Russia with aircraft, some with bombs some without. They could track us via radar but we could blind their radar.

There is NO sure defense, no sure offense.

Lets accept that as fact.

The US is criticized for having bases all over the world. When we retaliate, it will be from many directions over long period, aircraft, submarines, ICBMs etc etc. I participated in such cat and mouse games way back in antique days of radar, missiles etc etc. No one has an edge, no one.

Even those missiles that can change direction have their foibles. ;)

Count the number of bases, carriers, missile cruisers, subs, stationed all over the world. Only a madman would launch war.

BTP here is something you should acquaint yourself with. Read it carefully and I will tell you my first experience with it...SIXTY YEARS AGO AT ITS BIRTH...

fas.org/nuke/guide/usa/airdef/an-tps-71.htm

I noticed this:

"This extended range is achieved when transmitted HF energy is refracted by the ionosphere onto distant targets. The faint energy reflected back from these targets (backscatter) is detected by the radar receive antenna after returning along the refraction path."

What this tells me is this radar system operates in similar fashion as when CB radio operators "shoot skip" up into the ionosphere and can receive transmissions many hundreds or even thousands of miles away as they can do with Ham radio outfits.

When you would receive responses, you would exchange addresses and send a QSL card in the mail. I received several from people I did not even talk with. They got my mailing address from the transmission and sent me a QSL card. ;)

If America confronted Iran and lost, the dollar would be toast. We would see prices double over night which means wages and pensions would be cut in half. Tens of millions of Americans would have nothing to eat. The government would collapse.

If America confronted Iran and lost,

That is beyond hypothetical, beyond reality.

Iran knows that. The only unknown is, are they mad enough to choose death for themselves and the entire country? They are not dealing with Carter or Obama.

Iran has to make a decision, strike first and their country will be destroyed, or mend their ways. Trump is not Carter nor Obama, thank God.

Trump is an Israeli Firster as was every other President. He does want to let Israel take Palestine.

There are sensible people in Iran and in both the Russian and American military who know the US cannot win a conventional war against Iran.

The US cannot back Iran into a corner over the issue of Palestine. Iranians will not accept humiliation.

First comment has nothing to do with what Iran may nor may not do vs the US.

Second comment...Trump has said over and over there will never be a conventional land war with either North Korea nor Iran. Such would be of no value. Destroy either country and leave it to the survivors.

Third comment...There is no issue over Palestine. Iran needs only mind their own business and there will be no problem. Day after day they are LOOKING to tempt the US. Trump has backbone and will destroy Iran, not send them planeloads of money to play nice.

Palestine is an issue to all men of conscience. The Jews destroy nations and kill people so they cannot be assimilated like any other migrant group. They are insane. There is no reason to accommodate their insanity. Their current plan to hold onto power is to kill almost 7 billion Gentiles.

Having been involved in planning, where we were told of the human toll we would take on the Russians, and perhaps we would pay the price also, of the seven of us, there were no questions such as posed.

Prospects of killing hundreds of thousands of innocents in a flash, tends to cleanse ones mind of such questions.

Such business is not frivolous, funny nor sarcastic. It was quite plain, OUR ODDS FOR SURVIVAL WERE SLIM TO NONE. Hundreds of thousands of Russians would be dead.

Is that what I would like to see?????Really?

North Korea nor Iran

North Korea, Iran and Cuba are the three countries without a Rothschild central bank.

When Kim stepped across the DMZ and embraced Moon, ending the Korean War, North Korea was scratched off the list.

This leaves Iran and Cuba.

Trump fired the Uberneocon John Bolton for beating the war drums against Iran.

Do you think Trump really wants to start the war with Iran that he fired Bolton for trying to get started?

What will happen with Cuba now that Fidel is dead? His brother Raoul is now in charge of things there. ;)

Trump, like Reagan, carries a big stick and large testicles, Iran knows that. Any instigation by Iran, would see their ruination in one day.

Trump prefers to keep them "contained" just as Korea and Cuba are contained.

Trump jumped at the chance to kill Qassim Suleimani in Iraq with a drone strike.

The Iranians retaliated by firing missiles at a couple of U.S. bases in Iraq. They could just as easily have used fuel-air explosives and killed many more.

The Middle East has been a tangled mess for the U.S. and has cost many their lives, limbs and good health. They wanted to be in that position since they were volunteers.

What some do not realize is that the U.S. invaded Iraq because Saddam was selling oil for Euros. He said he, "did not wish to trade in the currency of the enemy."

This violated the U.S. policy of Dollar Supremacy. Saddam had to go and he did. He was hung for "crimes against humanity" on December 30, 2006. ;)

I sat out Shrubs office runs.

I knew a guy in Chicago that was in the Marines for 10 years.

He was in Beirut when the barracks was bombed.

When he got out the joined the DEA. Good career choice.

He told me they got the Bush brothers, Jeb and George, on videotape in Miami picking up a kilo of coke. It must have been a big party.

I doubt that video will ever surface. It has likely been lost long ago. ;)

They also tapped the private phone line at the Governor's Mansion in Little Rock when Bill Clinton was Governor. They got him on the line telling the party on the other end, "Yeah, go pick up another pound (of coke)." Bill Clinton has a perforated septum, a hole in his nose from doing too much good coke. I wonder if he can whistle Dixie thru his nose. LOL

Would there be anything gained by anyone, by destroying another country?

That question is nonsensical.

We could have razed Germany and Japan, we did not. On the contrary they are the better today because of what we did for THEM. Having had German and Japanese friends after WWII, never did any off them dislike the US. In fact both countries sent emigres here.

After a lifetime of military/government service, I hated the military, hated the government. Still do.There were many good and honest people in both, however, never trust either.

We must have government and military. Beware the "climbers" in military and government. They have and will sell their souls to climb one notch higher.
