Indiana to require photo voter ID

The Indiana House has approved a bill that would require voters to show a government-issued photo identification card before they can cast a ballot.

The final bill passed along party lines with all 54 House Republicans supporting it and all 45 Democrats voting against it.

During a three-hour debate, Democrats accused Republicans of suppressing votes of minorities and said the strictest voter ID law in the nation would disenfranchise some residents who showed up to vote without government-issued picture identification. They would have to sign affidavits to cast provisional ballots that would not be counted until they showed photo ID at the county clerk's office, the Indianapolis Star said.

The Republican sponsor of the voter ID measure said the requirement would restore integrity in the electoral process.Democrats said the law already passed by the Senate was bad public policy and may mount a court challenge.

Mooooooooo! That's fine with me.

Anything to help keep illegals out of the ballot box.

Also could prevent bussing people in, small time fraud, etc..

But, the very act of voting itself has always been an implicit acknowledgement that the government owns you.

The presence of 30 Million Illegals pretty much sums up the value of your vote and government = Zilch

The argument that the nazi I.D. Cards will prevent any of the above is ridiculous.

Agreed, a national ID is useless from an immigration standpoint.

I don't mind showing my DL to vote, however.

I personally refuse to be branded. I have no I.D. other than my word, and a birth certificate, which I don't carry.

To even participate in the electoral process in America today, one must show his "arse" first, and his DL to confirm it.

I enjoy voting against bond measures, tax increases, annexations, rep/dem candidates, bad initiatives and such. I enjoy voting for third party candidates, tax cuts, good initiatives and such. But no, I don't have any illusion that my vote "counts." Oh, and I should mention that there is one time when I enjoy NOT voting because a failure to vote is worth more than a "no" vote on a money measure. During off-season elections we require a super majority to pass money measures. If they get less than 50% turnout compared to the last major election, even if it passes, it fails. That put an end to the scum buckets slipping through bond measures and tax increases without publicizing that an election was happening. They'd just keep it all real quiet while covertly passing the word to get out the vote with the public employees unions.
