(Handwritten on a blank card from some guide-dog charity that I've contributed in the past. It was a stars and stripes motif with a cute little Black Lab.) (Inside cover)
Dearest Hayley,
Congratulations on the completion of your primary education. You have made your family very proud. You have made me me very proud. I remember the day when your mother brought you home like it was yesterday. Your tiny hands were so small that they couldn't encircle my index finger. You were, and always shall be, an amazing and beautiful person.
(Other side)
This gift I give you has some of America's ideals forged onto its face. Within the coin resides the labor and capital of thousands of Americans. Miners, truck drivers, machinists and countless others. Never forget them.
Your friend, always,
Jim Pxxxxx

The rest of the story...
The day of her "open house" as they call it now, I was in so much pain that I was throwing up in my bathroom sink before I went across the street.
I managed to get over to the outing, albeit briefly. I didn't want to cause a scene and spoil her day.
The lovely little gal Hayley is planning to go to (a lefty liberal) local college to become a nurse. A noble profession. Had it not been for a compassionate RN in my folk's neighborhood, my younger sister, would've died in the early 60s.
The young gal could save untold dollars by staying at home with her family and take care of me, but that would be creepy in the current 'woke' environment.
Her family could be millionaires, but that's not PC. I've spent about a hundred thousand dollars bailing Hayley's and Wyatt's folks out of bankruptcy.
I guess that was the point of the miners and truckers in my letter, nobody ever does anything alone.
Thank God, Uhmerikka's so 'woke.'
"We held it for a moment, but it slipped right through our hands."
FWIW, the coin was a 2008 American Liberty silver coin. Worth about $20. The ideals were 'Liberty' and 'In God We Trust", not to mention 'Lady Liberty' herself, I'm an asshole, but not stupid, I wrote a check out to her for $100.
