Yes and the British stopped Rommel at Alexandria.

As a side note, Hitler wanted to send the Jews to Madagascar, a lush tropical island. But they did not want to hear that. They wanted to go to Palestine. This brought about the Transfer Agreement. The Jews could go to Palestine but they had to leave their personal wealth behind.

It has always been about the money.

All of this has at its roots the Balfour Declaration of 1917 which declared the Jews should have a national homeland in Palestine. At that time Palestine was an Ottoman area. ;)

Montgomery was a prima donna. He had Patton and 130,000 American soldiers plus American air supremacy. It was Mussolini who lost the war by invading countries and diverting Hitler from his goals. What mattered was the Soviet Union.
