Justice Roberts, 65, reportedly suffered a major fall on June 21 at Chevy Chase Club, according to the Washington Post. The situation was serious enough that Roberts reportedly had to get stitches and remain hospitalized overnight before being released the next morning. Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathleen Arberg responded to the report by explaining that doctors believe that the fall was a result of light- headedness caused by dehydration. The Chief Justice was treated at a hospital on June 21 for an injury to his forehead sustained in a fall while walking for exercise near his home, Arberg said. The injury required sutures, and out of an abundance of caution, he stayed in the hospital overnight and was discharged the next morning. His doctors ruled out a seizure. They believe the fall was likely due to light-headedness caused by dehydration. Arberg made sure to mention seizures because Roberts has a history of suffering from at least two of them, one in 1993 and a second in 2007. According to her statement, however, last months incident had nothing to do with any kind of neurological issue. The Supreme Court only addressed this incident after a witness who saw Roberts with a bloody head told The Post about it. This comes just two months after Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the oldest justice on the Supreme Court at 87, had her last hospitalization. She has been hospitalized many times over the past ten years for reasons that include cancer treatments. The Supreme Court said in a statement that Ginsburgs latest hospitalization back in May was because she was suffering from a gallstone that had blocked her cystic duct and caused an infection.
