President Donald Trump should deliver his acceptance speech for the Republican presidential nomination far from the White House grounds, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows told Gray TV's "Full Court Press with Greta Van Susteren" on Sunday.

"Those decisions are still in flux, but I can tell you what I'm advocating for is miles and miles away from" the White House, Meadows said.

His comments on the issue came after Trump last week told "Fox & Friends" that, after backtracking from giving the speech in Jacksonville due to a spike in coronavirus cases in Florida, he was thinking about making his acceptance address from the White House, because "it would be easiest from the standpoint of security."

Trump has also dismissed legal concerns that giving the speech from the White House would violate the Hatch Act, which bans federal officials such as White House staffers from taking part in partisan political activities, insisting that the legislation does not pertain to the president, The Hill reported.
