World News See other World News Articles Title: Mexico's El Popo volcano blasts plumes of smoke, ash high into sky If this volcano ever does blow big time, it will kill millions of people in the Mexican capitol. Mexico as a nation will collapse and at least ten million Mexicans will flee to the US. That at a time when there are 30 million unemployed in the US and automation is eliminating jobs every day. There are several hundred thousand members of Mexican drug gangs in the US on the streets and in prisons. It is linked to the twin volcano of Iztaccihuatl to the north by the high saddle known as the "Paso de Cortés".[5] Izta-Popo Zoquiapan National Park, wherein the two volcanoes are located, is named after them. Greater Mexico City is at high elevation (7,382 feet or 1.398 km). The population of the metro area is 21,581,000. Located in the crater of an extinct volcano, Mexico City is about 2,240 metres above sea level. The lower atmospheric oxygen levels at this altitude cause incomplete fuel combustion in engines and higher emissions of carbon monoxide and other compounds. Intense sunlight turns these into higher than normal smog levels. The two elevations given are possibly because one measures the height of the bottom of the volcanic crater. And the other measures the height of the rim of the crater. The air of Mexico City contains other types of pollutants, mostly of vehicle exhausts. Among these pollutants are carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, benzenes and aldehydes. They are less visible than the pollutants of yesteryear but are more or less toxic, causing eye irritation, asthma and bronchial complaints. In 1992, the United Nations described it as the most polluted city in the world. Today it is outranked by hundreds of cities in Asia (mostly India and China.) This volcano has been hot and active for decades. An eruption would be a high ranking worldwide catastrophe. We have entered a period of Global Cooling like the Maunder Minimum of 1645 to 1715. The Sun's magnetosphere is reduced which allows more cosmic rays (nuclear particles from distant stars) to strike the earth which energizes volcanoes and earthquake fault lines. We have many more major quakes and volcanoes during a Grand Solar Minimum. Three eruptions in Europe in 1709 caused the Big Freeze which froze the ground to a depth of one meter (40 inches) in France sending food prices 650% higher. In the Dalton Minimum the eruption of Mt Tambora in Indonesia in 1815 caused what is known as "1816 the year without a summer."
