The victory was made possible by a superb legal team and the bravery of Grace Community Church, its leaders and pastor John MacArthur. John MacArthur: This vindicates our desire to stay open and serve our people. This also gives us an opportunity to show that we are not trying to be rebellious or unreasonable, but that we will stand firm to protect our church against unreasonable, unconstitutional restrictions. Historic California Ruling Protects Religious Liberty at Behest of Thomas More Society All-Star Legal Team via Thomas More Society: (A California superior court vindicated Pastor John MacArthur and Grace Community Church on August 14, 2020. The renowned pastor and his well-known church in Sun Valley, took the stance that church is essential. The court affirmed that position, recognizing the constitutionally protected right of churches to remain open and to hold indoor services in their sanctuary. The Los Angeles area congregation was represented by Jenna Ellis and the Rancho Santa Fe headquartered law firm of LiMandri & Jonna. Thomas More Society Special Counsel Erick Kaardal assisted the all-star team in putting forth MacArthurs case. Hours after Grace Community Church filed suit to invalidate Los Angeles Countys unconstitutional restrictions on churches, the county filed for a temporary restraining order to force the church to stop holding indoor services and comply with unreasonable and over-broad demands. Judge James Chalfant denied almost all of the countys requests at the August 14 Los Angeles Superior Court hearing, agreeing with MacArthur and the church that it is the countys burden to show why they should be permitted to infringe on the constitutionally protected rights of churches to freely exercise religion. Judge Chalfant expressing safety concerns. Attorneys for Grace Community Church explained that Los Angeles County was being unreasonable in its demands, and offered to have the congregation comply with face mask wearing and social distancing indoors until the matter could be fully heard. This was stipulated as a more reasonable action that that of the countys rush to shut down church services. The judge agreed and set the full hearing for September 4, 2020, ordering the church to have congregants wear masks and social distance between family groups indoors. MacArthur responded to courts ruling, I am very grateful the court has allowed us to meet inside and we are happy for a few weeks to comply and respect what the judge has asked of us because he is allowing us to meet. This vindicates our desire to stay open and serve our people. This also gives us an opportunity to show that we are not trying to be rebellious or unreasonable, but that we will stand firm to protect our church against unreasonable, unconstitutional restrictions. Ellis stated, This is a huge vindication for Pastor John and the Board of elders at Grace Community Church, who have simply asked for their right to worship the Lord together in church to be acknowledged and protected. When I spoke with Pastor John after the hearing, he expressed sincere gratitude to the California court and Judge Chalfant. He said his congregation will be happy to comply with the judges temporary order. This is why John MacArthur is so deeply loved and respected by his congregation and all over the world. He is a gracious and firm leader, and his biblical stand for church being essential has now been rightly validated. We look forward to continuing to advocate on his behalf in asking the court to continue to protect the fundamental rights of churches........ Poster Comment: I guess the horrible neocon station that took the place of Bob Jones's radio ministry isn't entirely bad. En route to church on Sunday I was as always jadedly flipping thru the radio dial in search of substance and found WGTK- FM was delivering one exciting news break after another from a Christian perspective -- including the above! This is a triple victory in a way. It's grand enuff when any church takes this stand against the communist crackdowns, but when a large one -- a large world-famous one no less -- does so it's a stop-the-presses headline. That's because generally the bigger the church the more brainless and jaded it is. The icing on the cake here, the 'pietism shock' of my title, is that John MacArthur has (to my knowledge, heretofore) never been anything but a poser, a radio shouter of the type where vehemence, volume and energy pass as moral toughness and courage. (Pietism is the phobic avoidance of any 'political' or 'politically incorrect' subject -- in preachers, the kind the IRS wouldn't like.) I discovered MacArthur soon after stumbling into the real world ca. 1987 and noticed this of him, Chuck Swindoll and other radiovangelists. He has and had many gajillions of devoted followers but I couldn't hear where he was actually saying anything! (Hey, the jews run the media -- can't offend them too much.) So he mustov gone all these decades and suddenly BANG he's defying the NWO and arguing it perfectly from the Constitution AND THE FAKENESS OF THE COVID THREAT! You know the PTB REALLY were stung to fury by that part. What could be better? The stakes are high for the power mafia. They don't dare shut down a megachurch (believe he mentioned 8,000 attending the renewed svcs) 'because they fear[ed] the people', and if one such operation does it how many others will get big ideas in response. Yeah, that's a cringe headline by Capstone Report -- you don't 'win', a right, you 'assert' or reclaim it but who can quibble. It's looking like a pretty fine site for our purposes https://capstonereport.com/2020/08/13/former-congressman-social-justice- undermining-liberty-rule-of-law-and-the-gospel-in-sbc/34826/ Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread
