I saw this before, but another viewing is good. Pretty funny that he thought the parade and all was for him!

Yes it seems so. But he was right in fleeing west to the Americans since the Russians likely would have treated him so poorly he would have died from infections in his stump leg.

And Heinrich Mueller, former Chief of Gestapo escaped to Switzerland at the end of the war. Even though information online says he is buried in a Jewish cemetery in Berlin.

Hitler knew of his plans to go to Switzerland and his last gift to him was a briefcase with 50,000 Swiss Francs in it. He told Mueller, "This is the best I can do for you."

U.S. representatives went there to interrogate him in 1946. They asked about Hitler. Mueller replied, "You could try Spain." Then he added, "Perhaps the Russians can go to Barcelona and ask Franco about him. They might end up buried in an orange grove." Then he said to the Americans, "And if you went there you might end up buried in the next orange grove over."

They brought Mueller from Switzerland to the U.S. under Operation Paperclip, gave him a rank of Major in the U.S. Army and he played the piano for Harry Truman.

I know this from reading the books, Gestapo Chief by Gregory Douglas. I still have those books here. ;)
