A high-ranking Vatican official has resigned from his post amid £180million financial scandal following purchase of London apartment block using Church funds.

Cardinal Angelo Becciu's resignation was accepted by Pope Francis in a statement issued by the Vatican late on Thursday.

In the one-sentence announcement, the Holy See said that the Pope had accepted Mr Becciu's resignation as prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints 'and his rights connected to the cardinalate'.

When I was in grade school in Chicago, I decided to join the St. Vincent de Paul society. They were the ushers during church services and did the collections.

One service in the church I was passing the collection plate. A kid I was in school with threw his dollar in with a grudge.

If he was so put out about that he should have devoted some time to attend those meetings at the Rectory.

One of our duties was to make recommendations for needy families to get a food order from a local market. I did my duty there also since there was a family living in my neighborhood with a few kids and I thought they might like to get some extra food. Their kids looked like they dressed in rags most of the time. ;)
