More than 50 million Americans have cast ballots in the US presidential election with 11 days to go in the campaign, a pace that could lead to the highest voter turnout in over a century, according to data from the US Elections Project on Friday.

The eye-popping figure is a sign of intense interest in the contest between Republican Donald Trump and Joe Biden, his Democratic challenger, as well as Americans’ desire to reduce their risk of exposure to Covid-19, which has killed more than 221,000 people across the United States.

Many states have expanded in-person early voting and mail-in ballots ahead of election day on 3 November, as a safer way to vote during the coronavirus pandemic.

The high level of early voting has led Michael McDonald, the University of Florida professor who administers the US Elections Project, to predict a record turnout of about 150 million, representing 65% of eligible voters, the highest rate since 1908.

I wonder what was going on in 1908 that would have compelled everyone to vote? It was before women could vote.

Politics was still very much a North vs. South thing. North being damnyankee Republican and South being Democrat. South Carolinians really hated Taft. Southeastern Kentucky and East Tennessee, where there was a lot of pro-Union sentiment during Lincoln's War, went heavily for Taft.

That map shows the solid Democrat south, which was the result of the Civil War or the War Between the States. ;)

1908... some 43 years since the end of the civil war. It was still within living memory.

But times change. Texas is now red and left coast is now blue.

Left coast had 6 Republican Senators back before the flood of legal and illegal aliens.

The North/South Republican/Democrat split preceded the War and precipitated the Secession of the Southern states.

From Wikipedia: "Here are the 1860 presidential election results by county, with darker shades indicating larger percentages for the winning candidate. Red is for Lincoln (Republican), blue is for Douglas (Northern Democratic), green is for Breckinridge (Southern Democratic), yellow is for Bell (Constitutional Union), and purple is for "Fusion" (Non-Republican/Democratic Fusion). South Carolina had no popular vote."

Note that the Northern Democrats were more concentrated near the South.

Very interesting. The N/S divide indeed goes way back before the war -- we've basically been two completely separate cultures from the start or soon after.

The yankees' problem then as now was the they're more industrial and we're more agricultural. Urban and money types despise anything rural or agrarian -- think food grows on grocery shelves. It embarrasses their jaded, deracinated, materialistic, delusional selves.

I live in a rural area. Lots of farms around here.

Matter of fact, when I was a kid in grade school in Chicago back in the 60s they were asking everyone what they wanted to be when they grew up. When it was my turn I said, "A farmer." All the other kids laughed. But back then you could actually make money and raise a family as a farmer. These days you have to go into hock to buy farm equipment.

I still think the Amish have it right. ;)

Really? But they do not use chemical fertilizers or heavy farm equipment that compacts the soil. They use horse drawn implements and the horse manure helps to fertilize the crops.

And if they have milk cows, and many of them do, they use a horse drawn manure spreader just like at the old farm that was on corner of Waukegan and Willow Rd in Illinois.

That old farm is closed up long ago and they built HQ for a large company on the spot.

There was a retirement building for old Nuns and priests kiddie corner to that farm. They even had apple trees out back so the retirees could get fresh apples in the fall.

It has been many years since I have been out that way.

One day we were working in a ditch in front of Marillac High School which was across the street from the retirement building. It was an all girls school. Some of the girls were out front and we were hollering at them.

John Kraus, the foreman, was standing there with his hands on his hips. He said to us, "Quiet! No talking in za ditch."

Old Kraus was a Sudeten German. When Germany annexed the Sudetenland, he volunteered for the Waffen SS. His father protested to the camp Commander that he was being treated too harshly in boot camp. They arrested him as a dissenter and sent him to the camps in Germany. The last I heard he still had not found a trace of him. Many people disappeared in those camps. :-/

I assume your are talking about the father here. Lot's of folks went that way. I have talked with some of them.

I guess the son never had to join the SS. Just guessing here.

The SS was branded a "criminal organization" and members were barred to immigration to the United States. SS officers and men were ID'd with a number tattooed on the arm. You had to prove your bona fides if you wanted to enter the US after the war.

This did not apply of course to qualified subjects of programs like Paperclip. (See the story of Wernher von Braun who was a major in that outfit.)

Canadian Farmer Sued by Monsanto

Percy Schmeiser is a Canadian farmer who was sued by Monsanto for infringing on its patent for the GM genes found in his crop among seeds he had saved to use he following year.

Percy had never purchased GM seed from Monsanto. The genes arrived by cross pollination from neighboring farm fields. :-/

What a great hero! In a better world he'd be famous and Nancy Lugosi would hae spent her life professionally scooping ice cream.

Sheeples neither know or care who real heroes are. They don't WANT to know, don't try to get their attention for it! Farmers are so unglamorous compared to jew-owned racemongers et al. (Course that accounts for 9/10 of the celeb class.)
