Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., shamed black Americans who have voted or plan to vote for President Donald Trump, saying that she will never ever forgive them, BET reported.
Waters made the comments on Oct. 30 while talking to Joe Madison on SiriusXMs UrbanView.
Any of them showing their face, I will never ever forgive them for undermining the possibility to help their own people and their own communities, Waters said. It is absolutely unconscionable.
Trump has argued this election cycle that he has done more for black Americans than any president since Abraham Lincoln.
I dont know why they would be doing it, Waters said. I dont know whats on their minds, but if we dont turn out this vote and turn it out huge, this man could end up winning again. And this country would go backwards.
As a reason for black Americans to vote for him, Trump cites his passage of the First Step Act, which loosened the strictest penalties from the 1994 Crime Bill.
He provided long-term funding to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and fostered an economic environment in which black unemployment reached an all-time low.
Waters used the corporate medias talking points about Trumps often-debunked affinity for white supremacists.
The divisiveness that this deplorable human being has caused, the confrontation, the dog whistling to the right wing, the white supremacists, the KKK, and theyre coming alive, she said. Theyre emboldened because theyve got a leader who wants them to do it. What did he say to the proud boys? Stand back and stand ready? Ready for what confrontation?
Rappers Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, and 50 Cent have expressed support for Trump, and Kanye West supported him prior to launching his own presidential campaign.
Some polls show that support for Trump among black males may have jumped to more than 20 percent, whereas he won only 13 percent of the black male vote in 2016.
