President-elect Joe Biden appears to have the blessing of late singer Tom Pettys family to rock out to his tunes.
The rock legends family said they were touched that Biden and running mate Kamala Harris used his hit I Wont Back Down at their victory speech Saturday night in Wilmington, Delaware.
We were all so touched to see Tom included on such an important night in America. Congratulations @joebiden and @kamalaharris, they wrote on Pettys Twitter account.
The singer died in October 2018 from an accidental drug overdose after he took a variety of pain medications.
Pettys family previously filed a cease and desist notice to the Trump campaign in June after the same 1989 rock song was played at a campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Trump was in no way authorized to use this song to further a campaign that leaves too many Americans and common sense behind, the family said in a tweet.
Both the late Tom Petty and his family firmly stand against racism and discrimination of any kind. Tom Petty would never want a song of his used for a campaign of hate. He liked to bring people together.
