Hoyer on Trump election challenges: 'I think this borders on treason'

Mitt Romney on Trump: ‘It is difficult to imagine a worse, more undemocratic action… Report: Biden team leans on left-wing groups

Hoyer on Trump election challenges: 'I think this borders on treason'

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) on Thursday said President Trump's efforts to persuade Republican officials to reverse election results in key battleground states "borders on treason."

"He is undermining the very essence of democracy, which is: You go to the poll, you vote and the people decide," Hoyer told The Washington Post. "There's no doubt that the people decided."

"I think this borders on treason," the Maryland Democrat added.

His comments came after a Thursday press conference by Trump's personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, who repeated previous claims without providing evidence that Trump, rather than President-elect Joe Biden, won the election.

"Joe Biden is in the lead because of the fraudulent ballots, the illegal ballots that were produced and that were allowed to be used after the election was over," Giuliani told reporters. "Give us an opportunity to prove it in court and we will."

Multiple post-election GOP lawsuits alleging voter fraud or voting irregularities have been dropped or thrown out in battleground states like Arizona, Georgia and Nevada where Biden received more votes than Trump.

Giuliani's remarks on Thursday prompted criticism from Republican lawmakers as well.

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) warned that the "wild press conferences erode public trust," adding that "we are a nation of laws, not tweets."

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) condemned claims from Sidney Powell, a lawyer associated with the Trump campaign, who said that down-ballot candidates could have "paid to have the system rigged to work for them," with the GOP senator calling Powell's statement "offensive" and "absolutely outrageous."

The Trump team's repeated disputes of the election outcome, which all major news outlets called for Biden almost two weeks ago, also drew a rebuke from Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), the 2012 Republican nominee for president.

"Having failed to make even a plausible case of widespread fraud or conspiracy before any court of law, the President has now resorted to overt pressure on state and local officials to subvert the will of the people and overturn the election," Romney said in a statement shared on Twitter.

"It is difficult to imagine a worse, more undemocratic action by a sitting American president," Romney added.

Romney's statement came after Trump invited some of Michigan's top state-level Republicans to the White House in a sign he may be seeking a way around the election results.

Bob Bauer, a senior adviser to the Biden campaign, told the Post on Thursday that the Biden team is confident Trump will fail in any efforts to overturn election results.

"None of it is legally significant," Bauer said. "They are pivoting from this completely failed litigation strategy to a strategy of misleading people into believing that he now has a political option. It is a response to failure. It is the last card that he thinks he can pull from his deck here, but his hand remains a completely losing hand."

Hoyer on Trump election challenges: 'I think this borders on treason'

That's nothing new. The left has been saying everything Trump's done in the last 4 years borders on treason, including him winning in 2016.

You wouldn't, by chance, to have a spare room available in your bodega, or whatever it's called?

Just thinkin'.

Just thinkin'.

You must have your passport handy and a nice credit card to operate with. ;)

It's like Glenn Frey said, "You gotta carry carry weapons, 'cause you always carry cash."

Passport? I'd never be able to get one of those now. I don't even know who I am. I'm worried about my driver's license next year.

As far as credit cards go, yeah, I could probably buy a new car with the one I actually carry. Bear in mind that every transaction goes into the NSA database and is constantly monitored. I'm very careful to use it in a manner to confuse the algos.

Murrikan fiat is good anywhere on the planet. Au and Ag works pretty good too unless you're in a third world shithole.

I don't even want to think about the exchange rate penalties on a credit card.

Shoulda been here yesterday for the meeting between me and my executor. There's not enough GoJo on the planet to get that grease off his palms.

You gotta carry carry weapons, 'cause you always carry cash.

I was making cosmetics deliveries in my old Blazer for this woman in the old neighborhood in Chicago in late 70s. She had this purple fluid that would take the kinks out of black's hair.

I would deliver it by the gallon to beauty shops on south side. She told me, "Don't take any checks from those people." So I collected CASH. By the time I finished I had $500 to $800 on me and I ALWAYS carried a pistol. Plus I stayed OFF the side streets.

I never had any trouble. But one time I was making right turn at 95th and Stony Island on SE side. There was a KABOOM off to my left. I floored it and got out out of there. I looked at driver door later and there were little ding marks on it like maybe they shot a .410 at me.

Some of those people just did not like whites.

I had a cousin (now dead a long time) who ran a cigarette vending route on south side. He always carried a .32.20 which was a bottle neck cartridge, .38 that narrowed down to a .32.

One time some black kid tried to steal some stuff off the back of his truck and he was shooting at him.

Another time he was going down side street on near south side. Three black guys stepped out in front of him. One had a pistol. He floored it. They put four rounds in left rear of truck, driver high. The boss was mad because the sock got torn up.

He said, "Screw that. the stock saved my life."

One of his sons told me that when his Dad died the cops went in where he was living and they were carrying guns out by the basketful. He was a gun collector. But he made no plans for posterity. What would happen to his guns if he died. Now the cops got them all. :-/

My buddy Jay that's an owner/operator parked his pneumatic trailer in middle point ohio is supposed be hauling trailers for amazon. I called him up this afternoon asking him where he was.

He said at his kitchen table. I guess he was getting ready to call his dispatcher. His days and nights are going to be as mixed up as mine are.

Jay used to haul lime dust or frack sand. Seems Biden is already in the mix.

His days and nights are going to be as mixed up

It was that way when I worked for Illinois State Highways in winter. Every week your group would switch from days to nights and then back again. It was very difficult to get on a regular schedule.

One time when out on Night Patrol toward the end of my shift in morning, I stopped at Denny's near where I lived for breakfast. When I came out there was a car at red light. It caught fire. The guy driving got out with his stuff. I pulled up behind him and called it in.

A few minutes later a cop pulled up. He got so close to the car the flames almost singed the hair off his head.

I opened the truck door, stepped out on fuel tank and hollered at him, "There's no one in there. He went over to the restaurant."

That cop wanted to be a hero. :-/
