Ivermectin is a medication used to treat many types of parasite infestations.[3] This includes head lice, scabies, river blindness (onchocerciasis), strongyloidiasis, trichuriasis, ascariasis, and lymphatic filariasis.[3][4][5][6] It can be taken by mouth or applied to the skin for external infestations.[3][7] Use in the eyes should be avoided.[3] Common side effects include red eyes, dry skin, and burning skin.[3] It is unclear if it is safe for use during pregnancy, but is probably acceptable for use during breastfeeding.[8] It belongs to the avermectin family of medications.[3] It works by causing the parasite's cell membrane to increase in permeability, resulting in paralysis and death.[3] Ivermectin was discovered in 1975 and came into medical use in 1981.[9][10] It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.[11] In veterinary medicine, it is used to prevent and treat heartworm and acariasis, among other indications.[5]
I was in a nursing home a while back to recover from the bacterial meningitis I was afflicted with. While I was in there they had a scabies infestation. One old woman was calling them chiggers. I said to her, "No, these are NOT chiggers."
They put lotion all over us and then washed it off. I reckon the lotion contained Ivermectin. ;)

Ivermectin is, or was, readily available from vet supply houses on the internet. So far, I've had no reason to take any.

I dared to question the chimperor's ME wars, NAFTA, and the open borders.
My last date there was 6.28.05 ~ quite a while ago.

I can recall people marching in DeeCee with signs that said, "NO WARS FOR ISRAEL".
But one thing most folks do not realize is that the U.S. invaded Iraq because Saddam was accepting Euros in payment for oil. This violated the U.S. policy of Dollar Supremacy. In Saddam's own words he said, "I do not want to trade in the currency of the enemy."
I heard a story about these chaps over in Britain who bought an Iraqi T-72 tank. After they took possession upon further inspection discovered a false fuel tank which contained several gold bars. Now that was a real find. I believe after everything was settled they got to keep them. Tanks were used to smuggle stolen booty from Kuwait. ;)

I never signed up at FR. I have no recollection of how I found you and the gang at FU. I vaguely remember the story there. Do you remember when 4um came to be?

I'll leave this one for Neil, that's been several cocktails and several memory cache dumps ago.

First there was LibertyPost, which is now in visual only mode. After 911, but back when Free Republic was the only game in down and rose to fame primarily an eco chamber for bashing Bill Clinton, the rules changed because there was now W Bush in office, and while bashing Clinton was fine, W Bush was a "good guy" that couldn't be bashed. In the aftermath of 911 talk of invading Afghanistan was in the air and criticizing it was verbotten.
Sally, aka Goldi-lox, who was dismayed at the censorship at the new and not-so-improved FR, had some connections which connected to me, and as a web developer back then, I was contacted about creating a competing site. This was in 2002. I put it together with Sally's guidance on how FR generally worked, created LP. Being the coding creator and additionally the freedom type guy I was then and still am now, I was pretty much the head honcho on it.
Of course our beloved Christine was a significant contributor on it but in time, the effectively joint moderation and running of the site by myself and Goldi was met with objections, as the wisest of us now know forums invariably do. So she worked with others to create FreedomUnderground with alternate developers whom I do not recall. Eventually, the aformentioned law about how forums invariable are met with disapproval began to apply to FU. So Christine wanted her own forum, so she came to me about doing a clone of LP. When it came to the choice of name it was bantered about that this new forum would be the 4th after FR, LP, & FU, so the pun of "4um" was favored, and "Freedom4um" became the name. I remember joking at the time, given the casualty rate of political web forums that we ought to also grab the domain names "Freedom5um" "Freedom6um" and so on just to be prepared for that inevitability of people being PO'd enough to want to do more remakes. But alas, that was largely it, save a forum set up by Robin, but that really went no where. I don't even remember the name she gave it, but it was given the somewhat disparaging name of "Robin's Nest" by people here.
So, that's how 4um came to be, and it lasted quite some time and like LP was quite active in its life until FB and other social media platforms came to soak up the political discussion market, leaving us die-hards to at least appreciate a place where, as per the home page here, is generally staffed by like minded people, albeit sans Christine who quite sadly reached a point a few years back that she herself felt unwelcome here. The site ran on auto-pilot a while and given I am the original software guy who put it together, decided to adopt it. With Christine's approval I adopted the site, xferred the data and software back to my own server and ever since have been the the big cheese here. Christine still owns the domain name, however, and has been paying the renewal fees, but I cover the hosting and get to be the one making the arbitrary rules whenever needed, which is not really ever needed thanks to the fact that we all here pretty much agree on the important stuff and, frankly, traffic is at the time low.
Could things turn around? They could, I think, as people get tired of FB censorship and constant advertisement bombardment places like this could actually see a renaissance resurgance. And I'll take this opportunity to announce the recent development of Facebook banning me. Yes, they did so, and it was, yes, me they banned. It happened at some point since August of this year. I got tired of it & was spending too much time on it, frankly, and posted a message about taking a break from it but which was fully respectful to FB. My plan was to get back on it for the election, but when I tried, I saw some message about a 30-day penalty, but without any citation of any crime I committed. For the rest of November when I signed in I got a message about needing to confirm my ID by answering a security question, but no question was presented. Then earlier this month about 30 days after that lockout discovery, I then got a new message that I was no longer permitted to use FB because I violated their community standards. No appeal or request for review was possible because too much time had passed, and still with no information provided as to what I allegedly did wrong. And that's where things stand. I did have a friend post my final farewell with protestations -- strategically worded to avoid at least likely key words that might trigger any flags to FB censors which I think is still there. That was just yesterday, in fact.
I did open an account on the rising FB competitor called mewe.com. The maker claims to be libertarian and there are no advertisements on the site. At least not yet. Basic usage is free but premium services he charges a nominal fee for monthly of some $5 or so. Very reasonable and after the FB experience of being a commodity instead of a customer, the thought of paying a fee to actually be a real customer is rather attractive.
So there's the abridged version of 4um, and some extra.
Thanks for the trip in your way-back machine, pretty good memory you have.
Wasn't there a "competing" site, FreedomOutpost(?) and maybe a FreedomsFlame? It's been a while.
Thanks for keeping things going here and for letting us know whenever a cash infusion may be needed.

FO kinda rings a bell, but maybe not.
There is, of course, LibertysFlame.com run by A K A Stone which is still active, and I'm still hosting that site. But I don't recall a "FreedomsFlame".

The hosting cost alone is pretty cheap these days. 4um is running on a minimal $5/month server with another $2/month backup fee, some $85/year. Christine covers the domain name fees that might be $10/year. I did put some time into the setup of everything, and occasionally do updates and such.
I had no clue that the cost(s) had dropped to down-right cheap these days. Again, thanks for all you do for us.

As I recall the poster "Arator" came up with that. I've forgotten about LP, I guess it was still there after a brain injury.
"Robin's Nest"
Forgot that too. It went badly IRRC.
...albeit sans Christine who quite sadly reached a point a few years back that she herself felt unwelcome here.
That's a damned shame. I was getting ready to go to Texas to meet her and Loddy before texting woman dusted me off in Nov. 2013. Had even started taking Texas Two-Step lessons so I could dance with her one time. One of the great regrets of my life.
And I'll take this opportunity to announce the recent development of Facebook banning me.
Gawd, Neil, that's a CIA front-company. I'm a little ashamed of you. I went to jail overnight because some chicky-poo that was shacking up with me did me "the favor" of signing-up in my name. No, she wasn't Chinese, which seems to be the fashion. A Slavic gal, I would have forgiven.

Thank Odin you don't do such nonsense. I'm way to cheap to spend money on AlGore's interwebs.
Thanks for the retrospective, Lord Commander Digit-Bender!

Very possible. I'd forgotten about him, but he was one of the fellow pioneers here.
"Robin's Nest"

It's not that it went badly. It's that she had no participants. I think she was a prolific article poster, but that all happened about the time that social media was getting started so it just never really got off the ground. I did set it up for her -- she paid me for the work -- but soon after it was complete I stopped hearing from her and now I don't even remember the domain name.
She and Christine had a dust up -- what else is new in this business -- and I regret being caught up in the middle of that, torn between being a service provider and a friend.

I did meet Christine once, and Bill too. Met for dinner in Annapolis when I was doing commutes for week-long work in Delmarva peninsula, as it's known (Delaware, MD, and VA). I'm glad I did. There was another one of us there also, as I recall. 4 of us. Those were the days.
And I'll take this opportunity to announce the recent development of Facebook banning me.

Well, then don't a get a silver star for getting banned?

It is what it is. Something you sign up for and can waste time talking politics with people, namely extended family and people you knew in high school who will never agree with anything you say, and often won't even bother to read what you write, all the while making Zuckerburg rich. There are some benefits though. I joined Tulsi Gabbard's site and was awarded some kind of preferred posting status of some kind. I like to think she did that herself -- I think that's a reasonable assumption -- and a positive sign that I actually did post something constructive. That was back when she was in the primary run. It was also good for meeting up with some people in my area, many of whom are as like minded as any of us.

Mewe is founded by a professed libertarian. He says no ads. And so far, there aren't any. But only have a couple friends there so far. I post my preferred music there, mostly of the epic type. Though I did find this mash up clip quite entertaining...
