Do you want some REAL stories about Jerry Garcia? We worked them several times around the Chicago area.
At Soldier Field in Chicago, the van pulled up and Jerry jumps out. Some guy an the local crew nailed him for an autograph.
Band Security was screaming, "Security! Get this guy out of here!"
I grabbed him and told him, "Disappear until this guy cools off." He told me, "Do you have any idea how much much this signature is worth?"
I said, "Nope and I don't give a shit."
Then another show at Soldier Field, I was in charge behind the stage where no one was sitting. Jerry's wife would sit behind the stage and once in a while he would come back there to visit with her.
He came back there and our guy nails him for the autograph. Band Security saw what happened and told me about it since he knew the layout with us.
I told him, "Don't sweat it. I will say something about it to him."
I told him a few minutes later, "You are not back here to get autographs. You are back here to make sure people who do not belong here stay out." ;)
