The U.S. is teetering on a dangerous ledge when it comes to the legalization of marijuana. Not only is it being allowed for medicinal purposes but many states have also decided to legalize it for recreational use. As more Democrats become bolder toward legislation, they’re wanting to legalize it on a federal level. Marijuana has always been deemed as the “gateway” drug. While there are over 700 strains of cannabis, many of them can have psychedelic effects, leaving to extreme highs, hallucinations, and more. As people experience what it’s like to get high, they’ll go in search of other drugs. The United States is already dealing with a drug problem – and it’s about to get a lot worse. India has become the epitome of why marijuana is dangerous. Bollywood is dealing with a significant pot problem as youths are rebelling. The country is working to remove cannabis as they’ve seen the dangers firsthand. Those who are in favor of legalizing marijuana have grandiose ideas of how it will help sustain the farming communities, offer employment opportunities, and help people to defeat stress. That’s all well and great, but how is that working out for those who are in India? Well, it may not be the best thing after all. It’s important to take a look at how THC works – the main ingredient found in cannabis. It can merge with the bloodstream in just seconds. It can alter a person’s mood, perception, behavior, cognition, and even consciousness. Meanwhile, a person can come down off their high in an hour or less, depending on how much they’re consuming. To completely “sober up,” the process may take up to three hours. Let’s not forget that cannabis is a psychotropic substance. It’s going to affect the mind. There have been studies to show that it can cause acute psychosis. Some individuals may be withdrawn or detached while others may experience hallucinations or turn violent. Sure, some strains only provide a small high that leads to relaxation. But, there are over 700 strains. Since none of them are being monitored to say that dispensaries can only sell specific ones, it’s completely up in the air to determine how people will react. Technically, marijuana is illegal in India. However, it’s been estimated that 2.8 percent of the population is using. Some do it for the high while others believe it’s the best way to worship the Hindu god Shiva. The drug has run rampant through the country for so long that it is impossible to regulate. How do you take away a drug that so many people have grown dependent on? Ahh, there it is – dependency. There are arguments for both sides of the marijuana war. It’s a natural plant so it must be safe. The reality is that there aren’t enough studies to say what the true effects of marijuana can be, especially with all of the interbreeding being done to create new and unique strains for flavor, characteristics, and overall feel. Marijuana is addictive over long bouts of exposure – and the smoke that is inhaled can lead to chronic bronchitis as well as many of the same breathing problems that cigarette smokers have. Further, there have been studies to show that cannabis is capable of causing brain atrophy. Regions of the brain show that memory and attention are impacted. So, if the war on marijuana is lost by Republicans, the Democrats will end up legalizing the drug across the country. If it turns out to be like what’s happening in India, three out of every 100 people will be using the drug. We’ll end up with a bigger drug addiction problem. Perhaps the most terrifying aspect, however, is that there will be millions of people around the country subject to random neural activity that can lead to making bad decisions. It seems as though the Democrats are already subject to that. Let’s learn from India and put an end to legalizing marijuana – at least until research can prove what strains won’t lead to full-on psychosis. Poster Comment: When Prohibition ended, they needed to find a place to put all those newly unemployed federal agents to work. So Marijuana was added as a Class One Narcotic. In Chicago in late 70s, this girl who lived across the street and was in High School came to my front door on afternoon with her girlfriend. She told me some guy tried to pick her up when she was walking home alone. I said, "Let's go and we will look for this guy. We jumped into my Blazer and headed toward the school. We spot him a few blocks from the school. I make a U-turn and get behind him. He pulls over on 4-lane by phone company building and waits for traffic to come and pulls out in front of them. I had to wait for a few cars to go past, but I caught him at gas station next to Post Office 4 blocks away. The girls got his tag number. I told them, "Write it down now and give it to Rick, the school cop." They found out he lived right across the street from the school. So they put a good looking blond lady cop out front. He comes popping out the door and sees her. He walks up to her and says, "Hey baby. Let's go upstairs and we can smoke a joint." She gives the signal and they bust him. They go upstairs and find weed. He is sitting in the shitter when I find out. So I tell the guys in the hood, "Get some ball bats and let's go." I drive over by the school and point out the car. Then I go around the block and they jump out of the truck and take the windows out of the car all the way around. Then they run and jump back in the truck. I see his guy again a month or two later doing the same thing, hitting on chicks walking alone down the street. He pulls over on street corner to get out of his car. I have this chick in the truck with me and I say to her, "Get down." I pull up alongside him and holler, "I see you are still up to your old tricks" and I was out of there. People like that do not change, and if he has been in prison, they get rid of molesters in there pretty quick. LOL There had been a plan to open a marijuana growing operation in an old grocery store here in town. They already had State permits, but the City refused to give them a business license. That was a sad mistake since we need the jobs here. Rebelling? If MJ is legal, then smoking it is not "rebelling". It's only rebelling if MJ is illegal. We gotta get off this course of using legislation to protect people from themselves. There has to be self-responsibility allowed. And it's not like criminalizing MJ has ever meant that the stuff is no longer available.
Society does have a right and duty to protect...SOCIETY... The West introduced opium into China long ago and it took 200 years and Communism to put an end to the mass addiction. Sex is common to most members of society but "society" has many laws regulating who what and where. Frying ones own brain because it "feels good" is a right and the weak minded go for it.

We were at a party in Chicago. Someone dropped a hit of purple microdot (LSD) in my drink. I saw it when the drink was halfway gone. I showed it to another guy at the party and he guzzled what was left of it. I went home and went to bed. I was hoping it was not bad acid and I would freak out like those kids at Woodstock 94. Some guy made an announcement, "Don't eat the green dots." It was bad acid and people were freaking out. :-/ Strangely enough, back in August when we had 70 mph strait line winds that broke off four power poles a couple of blocks away and put the power out for a couple of days, I stopped and talked with a guy sitting out front of his house and picking a banjo. He turned out to be my age and he remembered Woodstock 94. I don't think he was there since it was televised live at the time. I told him I worked Security there on front of main stage. He was astounded. ;)
