The various crashes like Roswell, and the Operation High Jump fiasco have been kept extremely secret since just after WW II ... and it seems to me that extreme measures (lethal) have been employed to contain secrets related to space vehicles.

Wernher von Braun, the Nazi rocket scientist, was brought to the U.S. under Operation Paperclip.

The Saturn V rocket was five V-2s strapped together.

Sadly, von Braun passed away in 1975. ;)
