President Trump supporters breached the US Capitol on Wednesday causing total chaos that included an armed standoff outside the House of Representatives chambers and at least one person shot as the building was forced into lockdown, disrupting the certification of the 2020 presidential election.
A showdown involving police, their guns drawn, and protesters took place outside the bodys quarters, according to pool reporters. One reporter tweeted that a protester made it all the way to the dais of the Senate chamber, and declared: Trump won that election.
One person was shot inside the building, a local Fox reporter tweeted, citing a paramedic source.
That persons condition and affiliation were not immediately clear, nor was it known where the shooting took place.
CNN reported that a woman was in critical condition after being shot in the chest on the Capitol grounds.
It was unclear if the reports referred to the same incident.
Thousands of protesters had previously broken through a fence and stormed the building, according to reporters on the ground.
