Kyle Rittenhouse Pleads Not Guilty in Wisconsin Shooting Trial

By Tarra Snyder - January 5, 2021

OPINION | This article contains political commentary which reflects the author's opinion.

Kyle Rittenhouse, the teen facing charges after leaving two dead and one seriously injured during the Kenosha Riots following the Death of Jacob Blake, has decided to plead not guilty during his arraignment today.

This comes after months of ridicule and speculation about Rittenhouse’s actions and intentions leading up to that night.

The charges Rittenhouse specifically faces include first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, and attempted first-degree intentional reckless homicide.

Rittenhouse and his legal team argue that he behaved in self-defense after defending a local car dealership when the riots turned violent.

Currently, Rittenhouse is free on a two million dollar bail that was largely funded by independent donors.

Poster Comment:

Kyle Rittenhouse is a good kid who was caught in a difficult spot by people who were intent on doing him great bodily harm, even to the point of death. He acted in self defense. Even Grosskreutz who was seriously injured admitted on social media that he "intended to kill that little SOB". And that statement is exculpatory evidence.

He will spend years in prison. The DA will not get a murder conviction. However, he will be charged with a dozen crimes including some very minor crimes such a Jaywalking. And, what the jury doesn't know, is if he is found guilty of any of the crimes, he can be sentenced based on the maximum crime. Therefore, thinking the sentence will be very minor such as a small fine, the jury will compromise with jurors wanting to find him guilty of major crimes and find him guilty of some minor crime.

That's very much what happened with the Waco survivors who were charged.

I recall and the jury upset over it.

Very. They said if they had known, they would acquitted of all charges.

That's the biggest risk to Rittenhouse. If he's found guilty of illegal possession by a minor, then it would be used to nullify any and all claims of shooting in self-defense. I'm not sure of the legal logistics as presumably not guilty verdicts on serious charges would be delivered at the same time, but these prosecutors will do things creatively and the law is wired up in funny ways us peons don't understand.

And the current gov of WI is a dem, so would be unlikely to pardon. But maybe he'll be replaced by an R. I could see Rittenhouse, if convicted to serious time, being a campaign issue for WI voters.
