I think not. I was much older than 12 when I got interested in bee keeping. I had a beehive or two in the back yard in Chicago. I was able to harvest some really great light colored spring honey since there were a few pear trees nearby. Plus I was a member of Cook- DuPage Beekeepers Assn.
When I moved to Missouri I could not take the hives along, but there was another beekeeper with hives on same property in north suburbs near Des Plaines river who took over those two hives. That property was owned by the relative of a cousin's wife. ;)
