Short-selling investors lost a staggering $70.8 billion this month, according to financial data analytics firm Ortex. Their losses were partly driven by small traders pumping money into stocks like GameStop.

Short-sellers lost $70.87 billion on US companies this year so far, according to analysis from Ortex reported by Reuters on Thursday. To put the loss in perspective, $70.87 billion is half a billion dollars more than the GDP of Slovenia, according to CIA statistics.

Don't think that this was just a bunch of video gamers that precipitated this, there were plenty of big boys from competing companies involved.

The video gamers will be the ones held accountable though. Financial Terrorists.

They need to have someone handy to hang that rap on, and the video gamers would be SO convenient. ;)

Point well taken. I never looked at it from that direction.

I still think a lot of inexperienced investors are going to be left holding an empty bag.

The "big boys" won't make the same mistake twice. I'm wondering how this series of events will affect my brokerage accounts after the glut of new legislation passes.

Sorry, we don't need no stinking legislation, we've got rule by EOs now.

I wouldn’t bet against the gamer nerds.

Dawg, I'm certainly not questioning you, but there's a lot more players involved. The gamers don't have the juice to move markets this way.

Look behind the curtain at companies B, C, D, thru X that are in the shadows. Details are leaking out slowly.

It's Friday-News-Dump night. Some details may come out tonight when we're not supposed to be looking. Regardless, the event should end by the end of next week except for the minor players (gamers) that will be the scapegoats.

I've been wrong before, getting to be a habit in CrazyWorld.

a few lunatics

We had a Foreman on the State Highways they called Lunatic Lindwall. He was a Marine on Iwo Jima during WW II.

One day he came into the yard to get cold patch put on his pick up. The guy comes with the end loader with a scoop of cold patch.

Lindwall was directing him. One of the guys on his crew was telling the guy in loader, "Dump it! Dump it!" He did and Lindwall got hot.

The guy in loader asked the guy on ground, "What's he so hot about?"

The guy on the ground said, "You'd be hot too if your bottle just got buried."

On another occasion were doing maintenance on bridge bearings. The Lead Lead Worker pulled up in his pick up with the Engineer in the truck with him. They called him down from under the bridge.

They said to him, "Bob, if you have a problem with alcohol, we'll get you help."

It really was no secret. :-/

Why would anybody mess with this company?

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. The ultimate God at the end of the World.

I'm not really in the mood to talk about it much tonight, and I'm just starting to realize that the rabbit hole is deep and the truth isn't really out yet. So I'm gonna tell you a little story instead...

A couple of days ago, I went to the grocery store for my semi-monthly food run.

The Kroger at Georgetown (neighborhood, affluent, w word) and did my shopping. I was kinda surprised at the number of multi-cultural food stamp types there. Since I go to the grocery so seldom (I have two deep-freezers), I forgot a bunch of things, one really important.

I decided to go out again to get the important stuff, but went to the store in New Haven (town, w trash, not affluent, blue collar) and decided to peruse the whole store since I wasted the gas and time. I'm glad I did.

I found a great deal on real beef steaks at about a third of the going rate. I bought two family paks and the stuff I forgot. I was bored and went home.

I pondered on why this Kroger was about giving away $20/lb steaks when the Georgetown location wasn't. You followin' me?

Money. The splibs are invading Georgetown with their food stamps, while the working stiffs in NH are foregoing things to survive. (It's a w/b thing I guess). Not many welfare types in NH. Kroger is giving it away to fellas like me rather than throw it away.

I still forgot stuff and was bored, so I went back again to NH today, I liked the company (w folks) a lot better, and got another batch of steaks. Crap when WuFlu started, beef was almost unpossible (sp) to get. I haven't had real meat in a year.

I probably shouldn't be allowed to go to the store without adult supervision. I had fun and I always pay my way. Always have. Bought a lot of stuff I shouldn't have. Helped out a few folks along the way too. Still do.

True, although there are six million of them in Robin Hood, and they all have stimulus checks.

Right again, Dawg, I hadn't considered that due to the fact that I didn't get stimulus payments this year. I had a little misadventure in 2019 that ran my AGI about 70k above nominal that didn't come to light until 2020.

You should've been here the third time my taxes had to be redone by my TaxBabe (I wish I was 40 years younger). You can't imagine the trouble that caused with my ObamaCare (I paid the penalties). I would've called you, but I figured there must be some legal-beagles here in HoosierHickistan.

Gonna be a wild ride in 2021. I don't think I've had any tax events happen this year, I only had one little sister. Christa (TaxBabe) and me should be good to go for one whack this year, tax speaking, unfortunately.

I have an old GameBoy rattling around in the museum somewhere, never used. I was told they're "collectibles" or something. Be still my beating heart.

I have an old Wollensak cold war, tube type reel-to-reel recorder somewhere in the attic of my shop from the 50s along with the family recordings that my Dad and his brother used to send back and forth from FW, IN to SD, CA in the 60s. I'm sure the tapes are in great shape, dust.

Thanks for that clear explanation, counselor.

What is your take on Robinhood's halting buying of GameStop to protect Citadel hedge fund? A violation of the law? -- or something that Robinhood could do with impunity due to something in the fine print of their terms of service? Other?

Awesome explanation, Dawg, but the game's not quite over yet. Where it ends up, nobody knows, but I smell new laws (against peons).

$20/share to $300/share.

FWIW, GME was about $5 04Jan2021 and it hit a pre-market high of a little over $500 a day or so ago. Pre/post market trading is risky as hell, especially if the equity is in play.

Just like Trump winning. Ya, that last bit will ruffle some.

I was on Hillary's Facebook page after Trump was declared the winner in 2016.

I said, "I can't believe you all voted for the sickly and corrupt Hillary."

That comment really burst their bubbles and they got on me hard.

I voted for a winner again in 2020 but Trump had the election stolen from him by computerized voting machines. Dominion machines were developed so Chavez on Venezuela would NEVER LOSE another election.

One precinct was caught by a hidden camera where the Republican poll watchers were kicked out of the polling place. Then boxes of ballots were pulled out from under the table and they were run thru the tabulation machines.

I am guessing this is the reason some precincts had more votes than registered voters.

In another instance equal numbers of Trump and Biden ballots were run thru a Dominion machine and the results came back as 60% Biden to 40% Trump.

Those results were altered by the algorithms programmed into the machines.

I also heard that Marine Guards are turning their backs on Biden since they know he is not the legitimate President. ;)

Gamer nerds

Gamestop wasnt the choosen target because were fond of gamestop.

People hate gamestop! Fuck them! They buy back your used game for 5 bucks store credit and put it back on the shelf for 40.

But that 147% short was irresistible. Any ijoot could see that. Power to the people. I like that stock.

Sidenote

MtG, magic the gathering, a card game is also heavily sold through gamestop among other places like walmart toyRus ect etc , BUT been been queitly talking about and watching mtg sales. ;) it's something to keep your eye on as they are heavily moved through gamestop stores
