President Joe Bidens Pentagon quietly planned to give COVID-19 vaccinations to terrorists held at Guantanamo Bay, but Americans did not look favorably upon the plan after it was revealed to the public.
The backlash was so swift and severe that Bidens administration was forced to publicly walk back the plan, announcing on Saturday that the Pentagon is pausing the plan to move forward, as we review force protection protocols.
Fox News originally reported on Friday that Bidens defense department confirmed that the 40 prisoners held at Gitmo were slated to be offered the coveted COVID-19 vaccine as soon as next week, sparking immediate backlash.
The rationale for offering vaccines to alleged war criminals was that a lack of vaccinations has reportedly made it difficult for federal prosecutors to move forward with war crimes hearings at the base, Fox explained.
Detainees that were slated to be eligible to receive the vaccine include Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the suspected major player behind the of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) slammed the plan, tweeting on Saturday that President Biden told us he would have a plan to defeat the virus on day 1. He just never told us that it would be to give the vaccine to terrorists before most Americans.
Defense Department Press Secretary John Kirby tweeted on Saturday morning that No Guantanamo detainees have been vaccinated. Were pausing the plan to move forward, as we review force protection protocols. We remain committed to our obligations to keep our troops safe.
26 million doses of the vaccine have been administered to Americans, according to current data from the Center for Disease Control, with tens of millions of doses to go until herd immunity can be reached. Many Americans will have to wait months to receive the inoculation, leading one to wonder why Biden would green-light allocating doses of the vaccine to enemies of the American public.
