I really can't take this. I've been occasionally using mail.com for years and suddenly when I go to log in they give me this notice:

We Care About Your Privacy! We and our partners store and/or access information on a device, such as unique IDs in cookies to process personal data. You may accept or manage your choices by clicking below or at any time in the privacy policy page. These choices will be signaled to our partners and will not affect browsing data.Privacy Policy We and our partners process data to provide: If you accept, we may do the following:

Use precise geolocation data ; Actively scan device characteristics for identification. This is done to Store and/or access information on a device and to provide Personalised ads and content, ad and content measurement, audience insights and product development. List of Partners (vendors)

Agree and continue Edit Settings

I've been routinely ignoring these in search results. you can usually get at whatever you wanted to see in a site without signing in or agreeing to conditions -- it may be reduced to a fraction of the page or grayed half out, but it's often still quite visible behind the busybody box.

This time there seems no escape. I click 'Edit Settings' and it opens another box also hatefully headed "We care about your privacy!" Non-choices:

Store and/or access information on a device/ Personalised ads and content, ad and content measurement, audience insights and product development/ Use precise geolocation data / Actively scan device characteristics for identification/ Ad technology provider from Google/ Ensure security, prevent fraud, and debug/ Technically deliver ads or content/ Match and combine offline data sources/ Link different devices/ Receive and use automatically-sent device characteristics for identification

I mashed the button for 'Ensure Security' etc but don't like the explanation that then showed: 'Your data can be used to monitor for and prevent fraudulent activity, and ensure systems and processes work properly and securely.' WHAT systems? Such horribly vague nicey-nicey stuff!

Mind you, this is mere minutes after I went through similar with a free MS Word alternative called WPS Office. Declined to mess with it on downloading and it wouldn't let me open it without doing so. Started the removal process, halfway thru it gave me a box asking why I didn't want their wonderful program, and I toldem:

Like all other word processors I've tried, WPSO unfortunately can't reliably trade formatted text back and forth with Eudora email drafts. (Then I realized the answer was simply keeping spare drafts in Eudora.)

But I'm also concerned about your Privacy Notice -- seems quite invasive. I found a very similar free alternative to WPS that has no such notice and will be keeping it around. Maybe it spies on me too but without saying so....

Yeah. I know there's always been some of this nonsense but it's getting out of control right when the new, worst-ever crop of DemoCommies has taken over and the social media giants are feeling their oats. They really "CARE" all right.

Since the 'good cop' program TextMaker is almost identical to WPS Word my paranoid little mind is guessing they're both from the same company, cf. the eerily similar mail.com and GMX. So mebbe I'm their double guinea pig.

I just noticed in GMX that you can click an option in that list and it gives you a non-definition -- and they all link to this page of gobbledygook:

tcf.cookiepedia.co.uk/?lang=en

There you are, 10 'Purposes', 2 'Special Purposes', 3 'features', 2 'Special Features. The one for my tentative choice, 'Match and combine offline data sources', is just a backdoor to all the others!=

"Combine data obtained offline with data collected online in support of one or more Purposes or Special Purposes."

Orwell and Kafka are looking down from the sky at the ex-Free world and wondering why nobody listened to them when they could. Just HATE this bunk!!!
