I've speculated it would end with the word "People" making it "NAAAAP", which would be not altogether a flattering acryonim!
"African American" excludes the Caribbeans, and Africans that now make up a sizeable portion of the black population.
Ah, but that's more than made up for by it including white South Africans of British descent.
