Suggestions most welcome.

Well, $300 is a bit out of my ability to pay for a regular expression search engine.

I did find a gnu program on http://sourceforge.net that meets my pocketbook.

Thanks for the link.

I always seem to find what something after I ask for it; must be some karma thing.

If you must...

WinGrep

Grep for Windows [GnuWin32, sourceforge]

There's always cygwin, too.

Its a fairly complete editing envionment; grep is just one of its tools I use for compiling FPGAs as I have hundreds of VHDL files on some projects.

Your first command should be

grep -E "[Mm]icroso.*" | xargs rm -f >& /dev/null

VHDL files

Well, that's cool; thanks, and all; but I only needed an "ascii word search" program ;). The accoutrements of FPGA programming is beyond my needs.

I'm not up on that, but it appears that you mean that output should hit the bit bucket?

Maybe you can help me with one. What's the POSIX way to determine endianness? I've got a code that has to run on PPC but using some binary data files created under intel-linux. I've got my own preprocessor definitions to handle things, but there's undoubtedly a POSIX definition that already exists.

Remove anything with Microsoft. (Except I left off the search target.)

Sorry, but I'm not able.

I've dabbled in Linux/unix, that's all. I have a minimal understanding of POSIX.

Wish that I could help.

Well, WinGrep isn't acceptable.

I did find AstroGrep. Has a GUI, does search more than text files.

Found on Sourceforge, so thanks for the clue.

Well, AstroGrep seems to have a problem with taking "focus."

Still looking.
