Is that the implication here -- the pilot saw passengers but they seemed to be inert?
We don't have any indication of what happened in the cockpit of Payton's plane as there are no voice recorders and such in lear jets. I watch these airline catastrophes every now and then and don't recall any case like what you describe.
Maybe I'm getting the 2 flights mixt up. 7:06 in your video at top = the pilot of the fighter jet takes a closer look at the liner's passenger area, sees passengers but they're showing no reaction to the other aircraft.
That's the Helios flight, a Greece-based commercial airline flight. Okay, yes the pilot was the F-16 pilot looking into the passenger cabin of the airliner.
