In late 70s I was making cosmetics deliveries for this woman in old neighborhood. She had this purple fluid that would take kinks out of black's hair. I would deliver it by the gallon the beauty shops on south side. She told me, "Don't take any checks from those people." So I collected CASH. By the time I finished I had $500 to $800 on me. I stayed off side streets and I ALWAYS CARRIED A PISTOL. I drove my '76 Blazer I carried and Astra 9mm. Astra was made in Spain during WW II. A German buyer and Spanish seller met in Paris. The German buyer killed the Spanish seller and stole the pistols. They were being carried by the Luftwaffe. When I first bought it I took it apart to clean it. There was still cosmoline inside the barrel slide. The bluing was worn off but it was otherwise in pristine condition. But once I was making a right turn at 95th and Stony Island on SE side. There was a KABOOM off to my left. I floored it and got out of there. I looked at the driver door later and there were little ding marks on it like maybe they shot a .410 at me. Some of those people just did not like whites. ;)
That was so 'racist' of the woman to sell those salons hair straitener -- and to warn you to always get cash! That was so racist of them to use the stuff on blax! That was so racist of you to deliver it -- and to floor it as if blax are more fearsome and threatening than whites ;)

I knew at the time as long as I stayed OFF the side streets I would not have any trouble. This was in late 70s and I always had $500 to $800 on me when finished. I had a cousin who drove a cigarette vending route on south side of Chicago. One day he was going down a side street on near south side. Three black guys stepped out in front of him. One had a pistol. He floored the cigarette truck. They put four rounds in left rear of truck driver high. His boss was mad the stock got torn up. He said, "Screw that. The stock saved my life." But he is dead for a very long time now. He passed away long time before his mother (My Aunt). One of his sons told me, "When my Dad died, the cops went in where he was living and were carrying guns out by the basket full." He was a gun collector but made no plans for posterity. What would happen to his guns if he died. Now the cops got them all. :-/
