Just an FYI. I have been meaning to post this and saw a thread related to gas prices on LP where Badeye mentioned $5 per gallon by August. Say what you want about him, but I feel he is dead on target with this one. Last I looked a couple weeks ago, Sea Surface Temps in the Gulf of Mexico are running hotter now than at this time last year (This is of the main reasons the spring storms in the midwest and southeast have been so numerous and violent this year). One saving grace is the Atlantic is cooler than at this point than last year, but it too is still above normal. Meaning, the season should start later than last year. If current trends hold through the rest of Spring and into Summer, the stage is set for explosive cyclonic development for whatever gets into the Gulf. Recall that Katrina, Wilma, Rita and Emily all exploded in the Gulf. Remember last year the price hikes resulting from Katrina and somewhat from Rita. Gas Prices have climbed drastically now without one of these monsters bearing down on us. Imagine another round of these powerful storms looming over the Gulf Coast and I believe we will see prices over $5 a gallon with sporadic shortages or even outages. Especially so with any direct hits.
The reason I post this now in late April is that Hurricane Season started within the first week of June last year (which was phenominally early). Though we probably have until July to really fret over this.
Get prepared now. Start saving any extra money. And about the first week of June toward the middle of the month, it might not hurt to stock up on gas. If the season starts slower than last year, you might could wait until the begining of July. I believe it "keeps" for about 2 months.
