When I started with State of Illinois on highways in 1980, the Jonestown massacre was relatively recent news.
The Engineer there at the time was named George Jones. He was actually a Serbian guy named Jovic, but had his name changed when he came to the U.S.
A few of the guys were calling me Jim Jones because of the Engineer and Jonestown.
My clout got me off the hook several times by cancelling write ups he sent in on me.
I had a lot of back injuries also. One time the State sent me to their doctor. I had been getting Chiropractic treatments to help with those injuries. The State doctor poked at my neck and said, "You don't need no more treatments. Take hot showers." As soon as I walked out in the cold air I got a muscle spasm. My lawyer said, "That guy wouldn't know a muscle spasm if it happened right in front of him." LOL
