One person is dead and five others are injured after gunshots were fired at Lake Merritt near the Juneteenth Festival in Oakland Saturday, police said. Police say they received reports of shots fired in the 2200 block of Lakeshore Avenue at around 6:22 p.m. Officers say they located six victims, five males aged 16-27 and one female, 22, suffering from gunshot wounds.
One male victim, 22 was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The other five victims are reported to be in stable condition.
OPD says another individual was also injured in the incident but was not shot.
Immediately after the shooting, officers saw two men running from the scene with firearms. OPD says both men have been arrested along with two firearms recovered.
