I had a Merc with the 390. That engine idled really smooth, as they say you could put a full martini on top of the air cleaner and it wouldn't spill a drop. But man did it torque hard if you put your foot in it. I broke a motor mount on my big beautiful Merc slamming the pedal to the metal. That was a lot of work. Loved that car.
That was a close as I came to owning a hot Ford. I did get to drive a Mustang convertible with the 289. It belonged to a girlfriend's Dad and he was cool about letting us take it out. Garage kept. I never put a scratch on it, but I did scratch a few times.
