The story apparently has now taken a turn towards manslaughter as apparently there was a bit of a dust up between Alec, and the director about doing another take. He apparently told them What if I just shot the both of you? Then pointed and shot the director of photography, which the bullet passed through, striking the director.
The gun was loaded with ONE live bullet which could have struck anyone at any time. The chain of custody on that gun revolves around 3 people, including Baldwin. So at any point someone could have put a live round in there. The issue for me is that with this bit of news, Baldwin failed in the adherence of the first rule of simple gun safety. Dont point a gun, live or prop at anyone.
He could have killed another actor at any point in the shooting of that film.
That being said, He may actually get into a lot of legal issues as the result of all of this. His actions leading to, and after the event are going to haunt him. I would not have wished that on anyone, even Baldwin. The issue for me is that the lefties in this country will find a way to spin this into their favor, even though it was one of their own who did this through simple carelessness and negligence.

I'm wondering when they're going to get around to blaming that on Trump. Maybe tomorrow, they figure nobody watches the news on weekends.

The bullet passed thru the cinematographer's body and into the director's? Sounds like a freak shot for the history books.
The fact that he pointed the gun and said that surely proves malice i.e. motive so the law has no way around throwing the book at him -- which it won't do, alas. Safety-wise this is the equivalent of driving through a red lite in a busy city, so it'll set terrible precedents when he beats the rap with 100 hours of community service or whatever.

The NY Slimes is saying "the tip of .44 caliber bullet had become lodged in the gun's barrel when filming a close-up scene, and dislodged when a blank cartridge was fired." Note the double passivity aimed at exculpating the shooter, and the Slimes' woeful ignorance of even basic firearms knowledge. Some ignoramus could be forgiven for calling a bullet the tip a cartridge, but nobody who uses the word "cartridge" in the very next sentence could be forgiven for calling a bullet "the tip of a bullet".
Why would live rounds -- with real bullets -- ever be used "when filming a close-up scene"?
Are Hollyweird "prop guns" real, fully functional guns? Was this a real, fully functional .44 Magnum or .44 Special revolver?
Not so freaky. A .44 magnum bullet will easily pass through a human torso. Most loadings of the lower powered .44 Special caliber will too, but not as readily.
Trained shooters always consider the fact that a person or a game animal when shot might not stop the bullet, and that whatever or whoever is behind the target is also at risk of being hit.

We've heard this from various sources, and that is probably the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. I can't believe such a statement came from a national rag. Or maybe I'm overestimating them.
If "the tip of .44 caliber bullet had become lodged in the gun's barrel when filming a close-up scene," it would have been immediately recognized as a ballistic disaster, and the firearm would have been pulled for repair or retirement.
Only a certified moonbat would have considered reloading such a firearm for any purpose. There are a ton of loony stories circulating around this event. No telling how and for whom they will be spun.

Excellent questions -- answers have to be readily at hand. Will this make any gun magazines? Is this show still at it -- used to hear it on local AM station:
wikid: "In a sworn affidavit, a detective stated that Baldwin was handed the prop by assistant director Dave Halls rather than by the set's weapons master: neither Halls nor Baldwin knew it was loaded.[73] Hours before Baldwin fatally shot Hutchins, seven unionized crew members, who were protesting unsafe working conditions, were told to leave the set, with a producer threatening to call the police if they did not leave, and were replaced by non-union members.[74][75] There was no union prop master present on the set during the incident.[76]"

Someone is culpable in this. But who exactly? ;)

I'll put down a nice Morgan Dollar on it that this movie co. used a good old single action Colt like anyone can find at the corner gun store.
If the cylinder will allow the load of a whole magnum round, the barrel will no doubt spit the bullet out when the hammer's cocked and the trigger is pulled -- to deadly effect when aimed.
I would bet also that some asshole slipped a live round in the chamber when no one was looking as a revenge move and got just what he was hoping for.

You win the prize. It was being used for "target practice" after hours, most likely a .45 long Colt.

I know that's a popular adage, but it's not always the best advice. In lots of cases the mere brandishing of a firearm has caused a miscreant to turn tail and run.

You need to ask those two black guys in Chicago who were in the wrong neighborhood stirring up trouble on the night before one neighbor was going to throw a block party for his daughter who was turning 16.
I went to the house and grabbed the Mini-14. I chambered a round when I came out the door.
When they saw that, they floored it and blew the stop sign at the corner getting out of there.
They said, "We got something here that is gonna blow your shit away."
I called their bluff and that was the outcome.
I knew a detective in Chicago P.D. He told me, "If they said they had a gun, they probably did."
But there were friendlies in the line of fire anyway and I really did not want to hit any of them. ;)

it appears that these anti-gun Hollyweird leftists were using the "prop" guns for recreational shooting between scenes. Real guns, with lots of live ammo around on the set.
Not a blank cartridge dislodging wadding or a previously stuck-in-the- barrel bullet, or any of that poppycock.

And they drive around in the prop cars. The firearms are almost all off the shelf weapons. Revolvers don't need any kind of modification, where most semi or full auto guns either have a constricted barrel (pistols typ) or a constricted flash hider (rifles typ) so that the blank charges develop enough gas pressure to cycle the action.
For scenes where someone is being hit with a gun like a baseball bat, a rubber prop is used typically. Blanks are dangerous because of the high pressure gas and waddings. You can be badly injured or killed with an air nozzle on an air compressor.
Reporters and firearms just don't get along, but I'm sure the CIA will get them squared away. I think Trump Jr. has a T-shirt for sale that says: 'Guns don't kill people, Alec Baldwin kills people'. There's a wee bit o' animosity betwixt them.

Not exactly. I'm familiar with some of Michael Mann's productions. He's very detail oriented. 'Thief', 'Heat' and the 'Miami Vice' TeeVee show come to mind.
(Edit) I was one of two actors in a training video a long time ago for a logistics/moving company. It was a favor for a friend. It was a bitch, took over 40 hours for a 45 minute production. I've got a VHS copy laying around somewhere.

I dig any smallest oppty for theatrics. Local theater guy said I could play the doctor or preacher (lawyer?) in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof but just went on staging musicals.

Spoiler: The more we learn about the facts of this case, within the context of New Mexico criminal law, the more this shooting looks increasingly like a crimespecifically, felony involuntary manslaughter.
If the New Mexico Attorney General decides to pursue this, Baldwin will be spending some big cash on defense lawyers. ;)
