When we lived in Chicago in early 80s we would go into this wild joint named Carol's Pub. It was at Clark and Leland about a block from where I went to Grade School at Our Lady of Lourdes.
One night my buddy parked across the street and was coming in to meet up with me and a couple other friends.
A squad car pulled up with three cops in it. They called him over to the squad car and asked what he was doing around here.
He told them, "I just meet up with a couple of friends for a few beers. Why do you ask?"
One of the cops said, "Someone just shot three niggers over on Wilson Ave and we think he came over this way."
Needless to say that place had a reputation.
One night two black guys walked in and tried to buy beer to go with the old paper food stamps. The bartender hollered, "GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!"
One of the black guys started to shoot off his mouth. The doorman was this stocky little guy with a biker chain for a belt. He knocked out that guy with one punch to the head. The other ran for the door. He hit him in the back of the head. He fell against the doorknob and they threw them both out IN THE STREET, not on the sidewalk, in the street.
To blacks, beer is food. LOL
There were three Mexicans who sat at the bar. They called me Caballero grande because I always dressed nice and never got into any fights.
One night the front door opened with a crash and this hillbilly with a stringy bread and wearing a dago T walks in. He looks around and walks up to the dance floor. This little girl was bopping around with some guy in a suit who came on there after work. He grabs her by the arm and spins her around and slaps her and says, "Git home."
The bartender told them, "Get the hell out of here.!"
One night two guys went outside to fight. The crowd gathers around. One guy knocks the other one down and some guy standing watching says, "That's it. Now you got him down. Kick him in the head. Put the boot to him." LOL
