Before moving to Oroville, he owned a high-end custom cabinet business in wine country. I understand how difficult it is in California to run a business, he said. I believe that everything we do as politicians or leaders of the city has to have the next generation at the forefront of our minds. His four priorities are family, businesses, public safety and fiscal responsibility. Since Ive been (on the council), Ive been a strong advocate for businesses, he said. Thats a big heartbeat of mine. He noted that with businesses come job opportunities for not only his children when they grow up, but for their whole generation. Oroville has a lot to offer, he said. Im here to see the city move forward. As a councilor, one thing hes especially proud to have seen come to fruition is the Problem Oriented Policing Unit, or POP Team. Before the tax initiative that was passed last election, the city was in dire straits financially. We were balanced, but we didnt have much breathing room. Everything was skeletal, he said. When he came into the City Council, Oroville was in a $1.8 million deficit. With a one percent sales tax, the Oroville Police Department, with support from the City Council, was able to create this problem oriented policing unit. Their specific task is to solve problems they once did not have the time to solve. Everybody wants to live in a safe community. If its not safe here, businesses dont want to be here. Families dont want to be here, Thomson said. The whole town is going to prosper more from having that resource available. He said he has a hands-off approach to governing. I dont believe that governments create anything. I believe the governments job is to get out of the way, he said. Thomson said he doesnt want to be a talking head. He wants to be a listener. I have people in my family who hold very much politically different views than I do. That intrigues me. I think the problem in our country is that so many people live in an echo chamber, he said. I think that as a city councilperson, or anybody in politics in general in America, the strongest thing we can bring to the table is an open ear. Thomsons world travels have taught him to value diversity. Hes spent time in Russia, India, the Philippines, China and more. He wants to see the world through not only his viewpoint but that of others. I hope that whoever gets elected in the town of Oroville has a heart for the community and is willing to listen to different perspectives, he said. Poster Comment: No indication if he is a Republican or Democrat. But he could run against Gavin Newsom. California has an open primary. Only the top 2 contenders are on the ballot in November. This guy could be on the ballot against Newsom in November. Of course vaxxed ones will be dropping like flies before November. Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread
