Religion See other Religion Articles Title: The Realtors’ Woke Dilemma Is Coming And its coming for you. By now youve probably heard about the story that Rod Dreher mentioned at The American Conservative having to do with enforced wokeness among the realtors: Heres another one. The letter is too detailed for me to reprint it here, even with redactions. To summarize, the author is a practicing conservative Protestant who is in leadership at his Midwestern church. He also is a Realtor by trade. A week ago, the broker/owner of his office called to ask his opinion about starting a new Multiple Listing Service in their local area. Why? The National Association of Realtors has a new ethics code that punishes Realtors for any hate speech or discrimination, not only on the job, but 24 hours, seven days a week. Well, the author of the letter attends a church that publicly dissents from the pro-LGBT line the NAR demands. The guys boss is trying to help him out, but its going to be hard, maybe impossible. And if the Realtor is not a member of the National Association of Realtors, it dramatically affects his ability to do his job. The Realtor does not see how he can both affirm the NAR Code Of Ethics and his Churchs constitution, which he has also sworn to uphold. Here is a churchgoing man who might have to surrender his livelihood rather than affirm what he believes is a lie. And why? Its one thing for the NAR to hold its agents to a certain standard in the workplace, but by what right do they have the right to tell those agents what they can do and say in the privacy of their own homes, and in their churches on Sunday morning. Dreher wonders where the outrage is from this: It is incredible to me that this hasnt raised the roof nationwide. We know what kind of people want to manage your every thought: totalitarians. The fact that this totalitarian prospect of the company owning your soul has not prompted an outcry tells you how far gone we are down a bad road we already are. A group of conservative, religious Realtors better lawyer up and sue. But I can make an easy prediction. You may or may not get the lawsuits, but what you will get is that Code of Ethics running face first into real life and not having a good time of it. Why do we say this? Because Article 10 of the NARs Code of Ethics, which was applied to create the situation Dreher describes, says this: Advertisement REALTORS® shall not deny equal professional services to any person for reasons of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. REALTORS® shall not be parties to any plan or agreement to discriminate against a person or persons on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Heres a little slice of life coming out of Drehers back yard (and mine): Baton Rouge Police are investigating an unusual situation in Hundred Oaks after a realtor locked himself inside the house he was showing to protect himself from people who wanted to see it. The realtor said he was showing the house on Rhododendron Drive in Hundred Oaks when a woman produced a knife in the guest house out back. He managed to escape, and as he approached the car she was in, a man got out. He got inside the house he was showing and locked the door. Thats when he called 911. Police said in addition to the woman, there were three men that were there. When the individuals involved could not get in the house, they rummaged through his truck and stole things from it. Some of the realtors we spoke to said safety is a big part of their training. And if a showing doesnt feel right, theyll bring someone along with them or cancel the showing altogether. First off, get a gun or pepper spray and keep it close when showing a house, the realtor said. Sgt. Don Coppola with the Baton Rouge Police Department said there are other tips too. Meet potential new clients in your office first, scroll through their social media, Coppola said. Get an identification on them, and when showing houses make sure its done in daylight hours. News reports of the incident dont indicate the race of the perpetrators. But a couple of realtors of your authors acquaintance brought this case forward indicating its an interracial incident. So heres the question: if youre a realtor, and you happen to be white, and your code of ethics says youre to act in a colorblind fashion all of which is appropriate so far, mind you but youre in a community where there are criminals preying on realtors and using weapons to facilitate the stealing of property inside houses youre showing and those criminals happen to be black, what then? Especially when the police are now suggesting that you bring the prospective buyers to your office first so that you can scope them out. Does anyone think for one second that this wont result in the very accusations of racism and/or bigotry that the woke NAR is attempting to short-circuit with those new rules in the ethics code? Its only a matter of time. You know it, I know it, we all know it. Were in an age where organized bands of criminals are now rampaging through Nordstrom, not to mention Louis Vuitton, in cities where leftist district attorneys and defunded police departments have essentially given up on protecting private property. Realtors showing houses want those houses full of nice things, and in fact will stage them with nice things, in order to make prospective buyers more interested in making an offer. Criminals are usually stupid, but not that stupid. Theyll know how open to looting those houses are, and theyll know the realtors arent going to defend those houses with deadly weapons. Who wants to go through what Kyle Rittenhouse just went through to defend somebody elses property? Especially when itll surely become racial. Rittenhouse shot white people who were trying to kill him, and that didnt even slow down the liars in the legacy corporate media from claiming he was a racist who shot innocent black folks and got away with it because White Supremacy. (READ MORE: Kyle Rittenhouses Perilous Future) Wokeness is a problem. Its a bigger problem than you thought. Dont be surprised if this story from Baton Rouge repeats itself across the country, and the wimps in charge of the National Association of Realtors are completely incapable of responding to it as law and order breaks down. Youll know it when you next try to buy a house and your realtor treats you like a criminal because thatll be how they have to treat everyone. Dont doubt that this is coming. Its already here.
