Population of the US in 1960 was 180 million. Today it is 333 million. That is due to unlimited legal and illegal immigration. And that makes for homelessnes.

Rent in California is three times what it should be.

Might I point out that the population of Mexico was 28 million in 1950. Today it is 132 million and there are 34 million Mexican-Americans.(2 images)

In the 1960 and 1970, the US of A should have sealed the country from all people outside of the US. Problem solved.

Thank the great society, other welfare programs, and the open borders.

Back in late 70s I would go in this local restaurant chain in Chicago.

All of the bus boys were Mexicans. One day one of them points at another and says, "Hey man, he's a wetback." ;)

Rent in California is three times what it should be.

People are turning their detached two car garages into efficiency apartments and are charging $350 a month or more and getting it.

One bus driver in San Francisco area makes over $30,000 a year in wages, but cannot afford to pay rent. So he lives in his van and uses public showers and porta potties that are placed at strategic locations.

If he is lucky he can get a few free meals at a Salvation Army kitchen. ;)

Supply/demand and property taxes are the main factors in determining the cost of rental units.

Before I left San Jose, I met a tow truck driver who was paid the minimum wage and slept in the truck because he could not afford to pay rent. He did have some mental problems but he held onto his job.

That is partly a positive thing.

In San Jose the rents are so high that people convert their detached two car garages into efficiency apartments and rent them out for $350 a month or higher. ;)

A garage rents for more than that. $700 to $1,000 depending on where you live. $350 would be in the ghetto and your kids go to schools where violence in the norm and kids can't read and write.

I knew this woman in NYC who was working two jobs so she could send her son to a private school.

Then she a got a gig with the U.N. to go to Syria to be a cook. She wanted to send her kid out here to me so she could go there.

I put the kaibosh on that move real quick. Where would I put him in a one bedroom apartment? And how would he fit in with all these farm boy types out here with that New Yawk accent? Not so good I would think. :-/
