Daunte Wright had the chance to comply with police on April 11, but decided not to do so, a defense attorney said Wednesday in the trial of the police officer charged with killing him.
Kimberly Potter, who was an officer with the Brooklyn Center, Minn., police department, shot Wright to death during a traffic stop. Potter has said she meant to use a Taser on Wright, but instead fired her service weapon, killing him. She faces charges of first-degree manslaughter and second-degree manslaughter.
Defense attorney Paul Engh noted that after pulling Wright over in a traffic stop, Potter and new officer Anthony Luckey discovered Wright was wanted on a warrant for a gun charge, making them fear Wright was armed.
Engh noted that when an attempt was made to handcuff Wright, he resisted.
“He knows exactly what he wants to do, and that is escape,” Engh said.

Had Daunte Wright not been a criminal, he’d probably been shot by one of his fellow black community members, judging by where he lived.
His white mama crying her eyes out over her thug life son, along with his girlfriend crying on the stand, is a distraction from the fact that Daunte Wright should have never been in that situation. Should never have been on the road that day. Should have been arrested sooner for his gun charge and warrant. This is a kid who was going to continue to be a thug lifer, as he was a criminal to begin with. The media spins you a tale of how this kid was turning his life around and had a job and was a good father, when in fact that he was just another baby making criminal who lacked the intellect to know when he was doing something wrong.
Aided and abetted by his white mother, and black father who like so many other black people and idiot white people believe that the black community cannot help themselves. They are simply all criminals so there’s no reason to try to better themselves. That has been a liberal mantra for over 160 years. The black people can’t help themselves.
The truth is, Daunte Wright was never going to cure cancer, or be anything more than a criminal and Officer Potter’s mistake was being white. That’s really all it is. Because black cops kill a lot of black people and nobody cares. Had this been a black cop, killing a white person, nobody except the family of that white person would have given a shit.
However because you have this thug life wannabe criminal getting capped because he tried to escape the long arm of the law, you have every moron on the planet calling for Potter’s life.
Had Daunte Wright simply said “Yeah you got me.” Then let the cops arrest him, he’d still be alive. What Daunte thought was that he was likely going to get some Street Cred for ditching the cops. After George Floyd the black community here has gone off the rails with crime quadrupling. You better believe that Daunte felt empowered.
So you want to stop things like this from happening? Here’s a very simple solution.
If you are under the age of 21, and you escape police custody, because the cops can’t just arrest you, The cops can then assemble a militarized force to go arrest your parents at their place of work, or at home, making the biggest show of it. Now while you are out there partying with your criminal buddies, your parents get to think about how they failed to raise you right, and then lose their jobs, their homes, and everything they worked for because of you.
This right here would stop a ton of criminals from getting out of control. Regardless of color.
Daunte Wright was just another thug and I simply could care less that the prick existed. Yet… because a white cop killed his stupid criminal ass, I now have to make sure every firearm I own functions in case I have to protect myself and family with a sentence of “Not Guilty” being reached by a jury.
Fat chance that will happen, because we have none other than George Floyd’s Nephew Cortez Rice threatening the jury and the judge with his BLM Clown posse.
