Derek Chauvin has pled guilty in the federal civil rights case against him in a Wednesday morning hearing in the US District Court in St. Paul, Minnesota. Though he previously pled not guilty to the charges, he submitted a written change of plea on Monday.

Sentencing will come at an unknown later date, and he's facing 25 years - according to prior statements by prosecutors - importantly, to be served concurrently with the April state sentence. He was previously handed 22 and-a-half years in prison for being found guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd, which sparked months of often violent protests across multiple major cities.

What a total and complete miscarriage of justice.

Luckier than most realize. Had the underage possession charge not been dismissed and the jury found him guilty of that, it could have undermined his entire self-defense argument for the rest of the far more serious charges.

underage possession charge

Kyle's Mom said, "If he didn't have that gun he would be dead now."

And who would grieve for Kyle if that had happened?

The guy Grosskreutz that Kyle crippled testified, "Yeah, I had a pistol and would have killed him if I had the chance."

After that line, the prosecutor did the "face-palm" in frustration. ;)

You should see the Potter Trial going on here in Minneapolis. The chick is likely going to go free. They are dragging witnesses who have nothing to do with the case to testify, all because they know it’s a show trial.

You should have seen the Reverend Sharpton and his little Photo Op with the “Grieving” family of George Floyd.

I am so sick of the so called “Race” issue in this country. It’s really just about destroying the country full on, and not anything to do with improving the relationship between different ethnicities. If it were truly about fixing things, I can tell you that there would not be the animosity that seems to be everywhere.

Is that the gal who shot the guy with what she thought was a Tazer? If it is, she probably should go free. If memory serves, I think the guy was a fleeing felon.

It was staged -- he played a scripted role.

I am so sick of the so called “Race” issue in this country.

I think I'm more of a racist now than I was when Floyd died. Hard not to be with BLM's constant underscoring what race everyone is. Used to be we were supposed to be colorblind, but now that's certainly not true. Now we're supposed to take careful notes of what category everyone falls into based on skin color.
