Title: 13 states and two countries throw support behind Mexican lawsuit against gun makers

Two Central American countries, 12 U.S. states and the District of Columbia are supporting a lawsuit filed in U.S. federal court by Mexico against gun manufacturers for allegedly marketing their products to criminal organizations.

Antigua and Barbuda, a Caribbean island state, and Belize, the only English-speaking Central American country, on Monday filed an amicus brief supporting Mexico's claims.

"Violent crime has gravely harmed [Latin American and Caribbean] nations and their citizens, especially in recent years. A substantial portion of this violence has been perpetrated using firearms unlawfully trafficked from the United States," wrote attorneys for the two countries in the brief.

"Unlawful trafficking of American firearms must be curtailed at its source: the U.S. gun industry. The gun manufacturers and distributors from a single nation must not be permitted to hold hostage the law-abiding citizens of an entire region of the world," they added.

The lawsuit's defendants include gun manufacturers Smith & Wesson, Barret, Beretta, Colt, Glock, Sturm and Ruger & Co.

The Mexican government on Monday countered a motion to dismiss the lawsuit filed by the defendants based on the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act.

"Defendants design and manufacture weapons of war, then market and sell them in ways they know routinely arm the drug cartels in Mexico," wrote attorneys for the Mexican government.

"Defendants' motion to dismiss the Complaint seeks impunity for this conduct. They deny that they help move their guns into Mexico, and they contend that, even if they do, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act ("PLCAA") precludes this lawsuit," they added.

Mexicans are dying precisely because law abiding Mexicans are unarmed while the cartels are. They better be prepared to prove their argument in court.

Wellllll, I'd hate to have to prove that in a court of law.

I have pictures, and probably should have been keeping a record of noise ordinance violations.

The Aztecs used to cut their victims open and rip out the heart while it was still beating. I don't think the mentality has changed, just the technology.

I never go anywhere without my folding pruning saw in the funky right hand leg pocket of my carpenter jeans.

You think it was bloody in 2008 when the mailman delivered my brokerage statement to neighbor's house by mistake then he tried to kill me and I shot him in the face?

When I rip open the carotid arteries of some Karen in Kroger because I don't have a mask on, they'll have to bulldoze the store it'll be so gory.

A life sentence in prison is no deterrent to me at this point. I'm sure I'll be able to get some decent medical care at least.

Mexicans make MP5s under license from the manufacturer. Those guns have been used by the Cartels but Mexico is not suing Heckler & Koch

Maybe I should fly down there. MP5s are OK. Maybe I can pick up a Suzuki Jimny while I'm there.

I don't like MP5s. They are strictly close range.

I've got a Springfield Armory M1A Super Match (.308) w/ART4 scope rifle. It'd probably break my glass hands. I can handle 9mm better at my age.

WORLD RECORD 1000 yard shot with a 9mm Hand Gun! | S&W 929 by Jerry Miculek

(Edit) Jerry mentioned the term "beaten zone", that's a heavy machine gunner's term meaning where most of the bullets are basically falling on the target. If you look at an old M60, it had an adjustable blade rear sight on it for range. A kilometer out you're pointing at the sky with a 9mm, it's going to have a trajectory like a rainbow. Same thing with .308 or 50BMG, not quite as much. Shots out to 2km aren't unheard of, but rare.

1000 yds = 0.57 (half+) mile
1 km = 0.62 (5/8) mile = 1094 yards

(Edit) I'm in an urban environment, I can't see more than a hundred yards in any direction.
