Buttplug and Grandhole should come learn about AltE at my graveyard of "green" nonsense. I've got a dead EV that I can't get parts for thanks to Brandon's chip and supply chain crisis, at least 8 scrap (big) batteries, two dead grid-tie inverters, and a dead charge controller that I just found out about today when my buddy was here today.

I messed with that stuff for 15+ years under various contracts. The only thing I have to show for it is a bulletproof home breadmaker and about three tons of scrap that the city considers hazardous waste that they want me to pay thousands of dollars to dispose of.

"Green" bullshit doesn't work, at least not how the LGBTQIA+ community wants it to and thinks it will. It's an infinite money-sink and maintenance problem.

My "crowning glory" was the breadmaker deal. For a couple of years, I was cranking out enough bread to supply my mother, her neighbors, my neighbors and friends, anybody who walked into Spudz bar and whoever wanted it. The trick was figuring out the $0.15 part that would fail after about 50 loaves, and figure out the 'slicing' problem (homemade bread is hard to slice without a jig to hold it). I was having to buy 50# bags of flour every couple, three weeks to keep the process running 24/7. It was a really interesting program.

Final disposition: The company said, "Eh, great job, but breadmakers are a Christmas gift that's supposed go in the garbage or the attic after 20 loaves. Thanks anyway." It paid OK and I made a lot of friends.

Great story. Thanks for the ping.

Home-made bread is about the only bread I'll eat these days, as boughten bread -- full of soybean oil and other garbage -- isn't fit for a hog.

Slicing is a challenge. Reminds me of the time I bought a loaf of bread at the nearby Panera store. The counter girl looked like she was all of 14 years old.

"Are you even old enough to work here?"

"Sure, I am! You want your bread sliced?"

"Yes, sliced would be nice, thanks."

"Okay, but I'll have to go get somebody to slice it for you. I'm not old enough to run the slicer."

Great story.

Thanks. The prototype for the slicer was just a 3/4" box with no top on it that you'd put the semi-cooled loaf in and slice it with a bread knife (I used my maternal grandmother's electric knife until it gave up the ghost at the tender age of 60). The box that held the 1.5 lb loaves had slots in the side and a kerf at the bottom to allow the blade to finish. It could've been molded in HDPE or something for a few cents.

I got a deal from USPlastics in Lima OH for a bunch of bread-type bags and the little plastic clips to seal the bags as a sample to march the stuff out just to get rid of it. The base breadmaker was a vertical type that was supposed to do 1.5 and 2.0 lb loaves. It was too short to do 2 lb loaves of normal bread (it would rise too much and mash up onto the lid).

The prototype is still in my kitchen in a corner next to a hutch. I haven't looked at that thing for years. I don't know what I did with all the original documentation, I might have burned it in anger, I don't remember.

I still have the original corrected notes for the recipes and timing with the unit. I really had that puppy dialed in.

You see that blank thing I tried to post? That was a really interesting deal about some hardcore fabrication stuff I did in the past prompted by these bad asses in St. Petersburg, Russia. Alas, it's gone.
