Perm-36 is a memorial museum to Soviet repressions on the site of the world's only preserved gulag camp. Local historians who founded the museum have been replaced at the helm by a state organization. The ousted historians now fear the change of management means Soviet crimes will be whitewashed.

GULAG

I worked with a Sudeten German guy on Illinois State Highways. When Germany annexed the Sudetenland he volunteered for Waffen SS. His father complained to his camp commander he was being treated too harshly in boot camp. He was arrested as a dissenter and sent to the camps in Germany. The last I heard he still had not found a trace of him.

He was captured by the Russians and riding on a prison wagon with a female guard. She fell asleep and dropped her rifle. He jumped off the wagon and retrieved the rifle and awakened her. She gave him a big kiss and told him if she had lost her rifle they would have killed her.

He was one of the few to be repatriated. Most died in the Gulag as late as 1952. :-/

Isn't it horrible? And even more horrible that ameriKans have lost all historic memory of Soviet evils?

It wasn't just the Soviets. I worked with Ukrainian-American guy on state highways. He told me his grandmother told him when the Bolsheviks took over they even raked out their root cellars. Of course their collectivism ruined to profit motive in farming. ;)
