Agent Seen Shredding Documents Before Fatal Shooting
PHOENIX (AP) -- Some new details are surfacing surrounding the death of a top immigration official.
Records show former acting U-S Immigration and Customs Enforcement bureau chief Thomas DeRouchey was seen trying to shred a large amount of documents shortly before taking his life.
A Customs Enforcement supervisor in Phoenix described to Marana police how DeRouchey had recently been seen placing documents into a shredding bin.
While that wasn't unusual, the volume of documents is what raised concerns.
On March 16th of last year, authorities say the 45-year-old DeRouchey was heading to Tucson from Phoenix.
He was going there to participate in a new border control initiative announcement.
Instead, DeRouchey apparently put the barrel of his .40-caliber handgun under his chin and pulled the trigger.
