If they mentioned UNC it surely is North Carolina.
I can remember back in late 70s in Chicago, the one neighbor across the street was planning a block party for his one daughter who was turning 16.
Myself and few other guys figured to get a head start so we had a case of beer and the tail gate down. The neighbor was getting a few things from his car and the cops pulled up going the wrong way on one way street. A few cars were coming along and one had two black guys in it.
One of the guys with me said, "Niggers? What are niggers doing around here?" They heard it and backed up since the cops were down the street.
They were saying, "Ain't no niggers here. We all gonna get busted together and go to 26th and California where the bruthas is at."
I said, "Later man." They said, "Ain't gonna be later. It's gonna be now. We got something that's gonna blow your shit away."
I called their bluff and went in the house. I had the Mini-14 right inside the door. I grabbed it and chambered a round when I came out the door.
The cops had backed up and left when I called their bluff. meanwhile the neighbor had come up the street and told the two blacks, "You know what he's going to get."
When they saw me with the rifle they floored it and blew the stop sign at the corner getting out of there.
I knew this detective and told him what happened. He said, "If they said they had a gun they probably did."
But if they did, they would have tried to shoot me in the back as I was heading to the house. ;)
