But okay, lets say we ban Russian oil from the USA. That would mean we'd buy more oil from other places, increasing demand and reducing supplies from those sources. Other countries buying from those stressed points would say, "fine, let's buy more from Russia".
So it would simply serve to change the oil distribution network and have no real impact on Russia.
The west simply does not have enough oil to function without Russian oil included in supply chains. That is why we will eventually forgive Russia when the war is over.
At the start of the Serbia-Kosovo War, the U.S. bombed and dropped all the bridges over the Danube River thus stopping the flow of cheap Russian oil to French and German refineries. They figured it would take 10 years to fish the bridges out of the river. ;)
