Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Steve Daines (R-MT) tweeted a picture of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his Zoom call with over 280 US lawmakers and their staff members. Understand, there was nothing but a blank wall behind him and a Ukrainian flag to his left. Still, in the liberal universe, this is akin to broadcasting his coordinates to the Russian invaders and flagging down death rays from space. No less a political authority than Rolling Stone blasted the pair for sharing the pictures and quoted Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MI) in slamming the appalling and reckless ignorance of Rubio and Daines. The lack of discipline in Congress is truly astounding, cried Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO). The Ukrainian ambassador had requested that no one share anything. At the same time, the meeting took place and admittedly, the two showed terrible form, but the shrill response by the left far outshone any effect the harmless pictures could have. A representative for Rubio wisely dismissed the hilarious reactions, saying there was no identifying information of any kind in the image and that the mock outrage over imaginary security concerns is just a partisan seeking click. The virtual meeting lasted just under an hour and Zelenskyy repeated his countrys requests to establish a no-fly zone for more planes for Ukraines defense and the US to embargo purchases of Russian oil. There has been movement on providing Soviet-era aircraft for Ukrainian defenders to use against the Russian invasion. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed Sunday that plans for Poland to send fighter jets to Ukraine have gotten the green light from the US. White House officials have left open the possibility that the US will backfill for the aircraft sent to Ukraine by Poland and other NATO allies. There is also a growing call in Congress for the US to stop importing Russian oil, which makes up about 3% of the nations total oil imports. However, the no-fly zone has proven to be a non-starter in the US and NATO, earlier turning down the request. Before the call, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the Kremlin would view any attempt to create a no-fly zone over Ukrainian airspace as direct participation in the conflict. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and President Biden have flatly rejected what most observers see as a major escalation with possible nuclear consequences for such a move. Poster Comment: Another fine mess they have started in Ukraine. The Ruskies first targets were the U.S. backed plants making weapons and other items for war. ;) Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread
