...the idea is to plant millions of trees on a strip of land about 8,000km long and 15km wide crossing the African continent from Senegal to Djibouti.

SEE MAP. During the Maunder Minimum, regions of north Africa were able to grow more food as they received more rain than normally. We just entered a Grand Solar Minimum. Those trees will help.(1 image)

During the Maunder Minimum,

The Thames River in England froze over and there was ice on the Canals in Venice. ;)

I realize the Sahara is retreating in the south but isn't planting trees premature until more rain arrives?

What little I know about planting trees is that the first year they need plenty of water. The Israelis were able to do it but it took a lot of effort and recycled water.

Would think before trees could take hold there would first have to be grassland.

Trees and grasslands have the same soil biology which is fungal dominant vs bacterial dominant for most crops. But you can plant seeds with soil biology. I would. I would also soak seeds for 24 hours so they have enough water to germinate. One of the best Ag consultants I know recommends that you soak seeds for 24 hours in clean water with Manganese, Molybdenum, Zinc, Copper and Boron.

Deliberate tree planting is done at minimum with seedlings, not seeds. But should trees catch on in the sahel, would not the locals cut them down for firewood just like the Haitians do?

Do you know an Ag supplier who has access to the solutions that contain the minerals you mention? Just asking.

And then how do you convince the farmers to use it when they have been doing the chemical thing which has depleted the soils of nutrients? ;)

Advancing Eco Ag channel on YouTube. Big Ag farmers will go bankrupt. They buy fertilizers and pesticides. Healthy crops need neither one.

I was a subscriber to Rodale Organic Gardening magazine for many years. I had a garden in back yard of house in Chicago back in late 70s. I used a Troy Bilt rototiller on it, and I had Praying Mantis egg cases hung around the area and also released Lady bugs to eat aphids and other small harmful insects.

One time I brought a home-grown cabbage over to my aunt. She made Cole Slaw. She told me later the kids were eating it and asked what it was. She said, "Cole Slaw." They couldn't get enough of it. Slaw from a fresh cabbage is a lot different than from one that has been in cold storage a few months.

Do you know what Tomato Hornworms are? ;)

Plants have Brix numbers which measures how much sugar is in it. Healthy plants have high numbers 12 and above. Big Ag has no Brix above 6 and GMO is under 6. Store bought tomatoes never score above 6 and never smell like a tomatito.

never smell like a tomato

We brought four pallets of green tomatoes to a grocery warehouse. They were so green they did not want them.

We called the shipper. They said, "Just tell them to give them a little more gas."

That turns them pink, but they are still hard as a rock. :-/
