Is Fukushima-Daiichi even in operation anymore? I know they kept the other units in Chernobyl running for quite awhile (years) before they shut them down.
Well, Fukushima was a massive clusterfuke for sure. It's inconceivable to me why they put the generators at ground level, on the shoreline, in a country that invented the word "tsunami".
Had they just put them at altitude, or had another set a couple hundred feet above ground level in a tower that could withstand a strong quake, no one today would know the city name. But of course, just having the entire plant relocated a few miles inland on a hill is the best solution.
So they fuked up with Fukushima, so who knows what else they did wrong at other plants? I'll take acid rain over a radiation disaster any year of the century.
